Just Bought a M&P .40 This weekend

I've been looking at handguns for awhile now and decided to go with the M&P. I have a couple questions for those who own the 40. I'm looking at holsters and thinking about getting the Blackhawk serpa. What does the OB think?
I've read up on the Apex Trigger aluminum trigger kit. Would the OB reccomend installing myself or bringing to a gunsmith?
I'm also thinking about buying the 9mm barrel and mags for practice, any recommendations on a site to purchase one? It seems like a lot of sites have the barrel out of stock.
Any other suggestions are welcome.

My old roommate has this gun.
Either that is the worlds most inaccurate weapon or my buddy shoots like a bad guy in a movie. Please report back after shooting.
ETA: Old guy that is always at the range in Helena AL saw his target and said, "I know who I'm robbing."

Sounds like your old roommate is a bad shot .
I plan on shooting it sometime this week, I'll let you know how it goes.

Go back and exchange it for a 9.

And I just picked up a Blackhawk serpa for my sig and I think I'm gonna return it. Not a fan of the way the paddy part fits. I prefer one like the ones that come with Springfield's

Congrats on your fine pistol. I own 2 M&Ps (compact, and CORE), my brother owns one (M&P9) and my dad owns one (M&P40 like yours). I guess I could be seen as the resident M&P fanboy here.
It is a solid holster but I prefer one that has regular retention rather than a button. Then again, I don't carry my defensive handguns outside of my waistband.
Here's my video of the installation. If it looks too difficult, bring it a gunsmith or just to me.
Apex FSS and Trigger install
My dad purchased his 9mm barrel from Midway and the 5" 9mm barrel I bought for my CORE came from GunBroker.
If you have seen other M&P40 reviews and such, you know that you don't have to drop $200 on a Storm Lake barrel. A factory S&W 9mm barrel will fit in its 40 counterpart as long as the barrel is the same length (example, 4.25" for yours, 3.5" for a compact, etc.).
If you have any other questions or concerns, peruse my YouTube channel and see the reviews I did of the regular M&P, the CORE, and the Compact. I will be doing a Shield review pretty soon as well.
EDIT: Forgot to let you know that most sites get spare M&P barrels when S&W has a surplus. I would suggest looking on auction sites for one.

If you're wanting a concealable holster, Serpa isn't the answer. They stick out from the body too much.
Either get a IWB holster, or a pancake style leather holster for OWB carry.

I have used the Blackhawk serpas a good bit, but as far as serpas go, I like the IMI defense ones better

Thank you, I'm very satisfied with it so far (although I haven't shot it yet)
What would be your recommendation on just a natural retention holster?
Awesome Video, Thanks.
It's a no brainer $65 is a lot better than $200, i'll take a look at some auction sites.
Awesome reviews, that's where I got a lot ideas from.

I have a Safariland paddle holster from Midway. It seems to work pretty well. No problems so far.

I'm ready to buy a new handgun, been researching for the better part of a year now and have also decided on the M&P 40. Watched all of bapple's videos on the subject as well.
My question is this: should I go ahead and get the M&P pro series with the lighter trigger and night sights, or should I just get the regular M&P and add the trigger and sights later?

I just got my M&P 40 back from getting the Apex forward sear and trigger set installed. I am absolutely blown away at the difference. If you have this gun, I recommend the upgrade. Short, light and smooth pull with small reset. I'm giddy about how good it feels.

M&P's are notorious for having accuracy issues, it's probably an older model. They had barrel issues.

I bought mine 6 months ago and it shoots straight. Now whether I shoot straight is a different story. The upgraded trigger has remedied my left pulls.
I bought the gun primarily because of the ergonomics, but the stock trigger was garbage. But to be fair, I didn't realize how bad the stock trigger was until I had it upgraded.
