Why do you feel U of Miami has fallen so far?

I get they were placed on sanctions a couple of years ago, but it wasn't like they were setting the woods on fire before that. Why do you feel they slipped so far?

We raped their soul back in 2006. They never recovered from that 41-3 beatdown.

I'll answer your question with another question:
What significant change happened to Miami in 2004?
The answer to that question is the answer to your question.

You seriously don't know?
From 1991-2003, Miami played in the Big East Conference.
In 2004, Miami was now in a division with Florida State, Boston College (Matt Ryan version), Clemson, N.C. State, and Maryland AND had to play Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech (Calvin Johnson version) and North Carolina in certain years.
MUCH tougher conference schedule than the old Big East.
Edit: they joined the ACC in 2004, not 2005.

The fences are down.
Other Florida schools like FAU, FIU, and UCF have stepped their game up in recruiting. Withering facilities, ho-hum coaching choices, you name it. They haven't improved their program one iota in over 10 years.
EDIT; They JUST built a new football facility, last year.

Nail in the coffin was the demolition of the old orange bowl.
Dolphin's stadium is like an hour away from campus.

Because the people of Miami are a fickle bunch (see the Miami Heat). The University of Miami is a private school that was founded for rich, white kids in Florida, with a student body similar to USC, SMU, etc. After OSU beat them in the 2002-2003 BCSNCG, everyone moved on from UM to USC. Now all the top players want to play for Saban, Sumlin, etc.

I was wrong, they joined the ACC in 2004, not 2005
Let me put it another way:
Miami's record in the Big East (1991-2003) was 128-29, including 9 conference championships (6 outright) and 2 national championships.
Miami's record since joining the ACC (2004-present) is 75-50 with no championships of any kind (division, conference, or national).
If they get 8 more losses in the next 3 seasons, they will DOUBLE the total number of losses they had in the Big East.

increased competition in the area with their poor facilities is the bigger issue. Those past teams were talented enough to play in any conference, especially the ACC.

Well, they just had 2 guys arrested for raping a mentally handicapped person, so I don't think they understand how to recruit character still.

The "U" has always been at odds with the University of Miami.

It's the increase in competition as well. They never properly adjusted to the increased strength of their competition. They went in expecting to dominate and fell flat.
Here are some other examples:
TCU (Mountain West to Big 12)
Utah (Mountain West to PAC 12)
Colorado (Big 12 to PAC 12)
West Virginia (Big East to Big 12)
Nebraska (Big 12 to Big Ten) initially
If the program is not PREPARED for the upgrade in competition you will see similar results.
Look for Louisville to thrive in the ACC and for Maryland and Rutgers to struggle.

Oh yeah, Donna Shalala HATES athletics and wants to get rid of the whole program. Not good when your Pres has thise opinions. She made public comments a year or so ago about wanting to lower the importance of athletics at Tha U.

That's because Donna Shalala is continuing her track record of "excellence" that started when she worked for the Clinton White House.

You say it with such confidence, I almost believe you. But this is nowhere close to the truth.
