My outboard has never been able to run on fuel with ethanol. It's an 83 mercury, by the way.

Damn ethanol making my yellow acorns so damn expensive.

If it sits it attracts water due to condensation. Cars don't have problems like boats due to the high turn over rate of the fuel tanks.
