I'm not the biggest fan of Chambers at RB. Jenkinson is a better option in my opinion, because Jenkinson is the better athlete and provides an outlet with his running. And I'm not sure Chambers is the better 1v1 defender.

I think Chambers future is at CB. He is cover right now, but loaning Jenko is puzzling to me.

Maybe Wenger doesn't rate Jenko, but he would have been extremely useful the last three months, and that's an understatement. We wouldn't have had to play a LB at CB for a month, and we would have had a defender off the bench.

Yeah Chambers seems to struggle with pace at times.

I think Jenkinson was loaned out because Wenger originally believed Chambers to be the backup RB. It wasn't until Wenger saw Chambers in practice that he realized his CB/CDM potential.
Will be glad to have Jenkinson back next season. Think he will add quality depth to the squad, and really wish we had him this season.
I also think Wenger didn't buy a CDM because he believes Chambers is the potential CDM of this team. If we wouldn't have had CB injuries, he would have already played Chambers there. Chambers grew up playing there at Southampton. The only reason he started at RB for them in the senior team was due to lack of depth. He's a CDM at heart with potential at CB.

i think he's played quite possibly his best matches at RB the last 3 matches or so. still, he's definitely a CB or CDM long term.
it's pretty clear something that didn't go through in August. i think we thought we had another player lined up that fell through. unless his opinion of bellerin declined sharply in the interim of jenko leaving-debuchy being hurt.
i'm not sure AW ever saw Chambers as one thing. i think he saw him as a very skilled footballer who could competently play 3 positions and he loves versatile talent. i'm excited to see how he develops.

Chambers is serviceable at RB, but I can't stress how important having deep runners is on a team that is obsessed with receiving the ball to feet. Jenks is the better athlete, is a decent crosser, and would rather run onto the ball than have it played into him. That's why I prefer him. Defensively Jenks's pace is what allows him to be aggressive. And I can't remember him being worked like Montero worked Chambers in the Swansea game, though Jenks did have a horrible game against Man U in that horrible loss some years ago. If we aren't going to offer our RB any protection, and leave Per exposed, I'd rather we put the best athlete out there than the more technical player.

I think you're slightly underrating Chambers at RB. Other than Swansea, he's been pretty rock solid. I don't find that he struggles for pace, either. He has a long stride.
That said, I think it's probably his worst position. I think at CB he's potentially world class (I know that term gets overused, but look at the dearth of great defenders out there), and I'm excited to see him get a run at DM.
The great thing about Chambers is how universally he is loved by scouts. I've read several scouting reports from various clubs RAVING about him (from his days at Southampton).
All this talk about 'Wenger Out,' but he seems to be the one who spotted and secured Chambers, and he's also brought in maybe the POTY in England in Alexis. I'm really hoping we're through our rough patch and make a run at the top three this year, as well as a decent CL run. We still have a lot of depth when healthy, and a January buy at CB depth and DM* could push us on.
*As well as Arteta has played of late, his declining health is a sign we need to find his replacement. I don't know if that's Chambers or Schneiderlin or Carvalho or Krychowiak, but we need to get him playing in our midfield ASAP.

Is today a must win? It kind of has that feel.

Still too early for must-wins IMO because there's so much time left, but if we don't start winning these, we'll dig ourselves too deep of a hole...so yeah, to contradict myself, it kinda is. But not really.

9 points back of Soton would suck.

Does Nacho even have a right foot?

This team sure does love its share of late goals.

They do seem to have a flair for the dramatic
Giroud provided a great lift off the bench.
Another clean sheet

I hope Giroud is ok with being a spot starter/cup starter and a super sub the rest of the time. He's been a revelation coming off the bench against tired defenses.
Also, Wenger gets a lot of shite for leaving his subs till late. And usually it's justified, but today shows the dangers of making all your subs with significant time left

Hopefully we can improve the passing, keep getting players (ozil!!!) back and make a run for 2nd or 3rd
Good win against a solid team this year though
