Thoughts on Pelican Elite coolers

Guy i fished with last weekend had two on his boat.Damn things were pretty sick. They would immediately pull down to a vacuum when the lid closed and the only way to open them was the relief valves built into the latches. All latched and hinges were replaceable and he said the coolers are lifetime warranty. you can get the 150 qt for $521.00 LINK

I think I like the Yeti handles and latches more. A lot simpler and less to break. And you don't need 10" clearance on each side just to pick up the handles.

Pretty sure those big handles pivot around a solid bar that acts as a rigid handle.

yes they do. Does Yeti create a vacuum like these do? Seems like ice would live a little better in a vacuum environment.

they most certainly do.
one of my 75's (RIP) you had to crack the drain to get it open.
ETA: they have some aftermarket drains for them that had a push button to release the vacuum. i was looking at them before the coolers got stolen.

Ahhhh. Now i see. Cool.
The Yeti's do form a vacuum, but it can be a pain to open the lid as there is no way to vent it other than the drain plug.

I bet a Judge would break the vacuum.

But would destroy the cooler in the process

and during the summer one of them is almost always filled with ice/has ice in it
i just put a new bag on once a week and drain out the water

It's a Yeti. Can't be destroyed. You may create a black hole, though.

Can't be playing God just to get a cooler open - perhaps the Yeti is too powerful for mortals?

The Pelican have the release built into the latch. Pop the latch and you hear all the air enter through a little port underneath. Pretty cool.
They also have measuring marks molded into the lid. I cannot believe Yeti does not have this feature on theirs.

Measuring marks affect the bearproof-ness of the Yeti.

It's like the Sword in the Stone.

A friend has one and brought it with him on my boat. As good as a Yeti and not as expensive, but less "prestige" in owning one.

They are currently on sale at Costco in Baton Rouge
