Ryno is like a Sith Lord.

well at least I have an opinion. I don't jsut say "wait till all the prospects are ready" or "trust the process" or "too early to judge". where is the fun in that? Plus, darth maul and darth vader were badass!

show me where I'm wrong about Kike. I love the kid. he is not an EVERYDAY SS defensively. I'll eat my hat if any team uses him as an everyday SS at anytime in his career.

I'm all for giving him time in AAA. 11 k's in 13 ABs is very troublesome. young or not. and he has nowhere near the upside of trout.

The Fielder deal could be devastating if he can't bounce back next year. Signed through 2020 at 24 mil per year.
It's not being that Detroit sent over 30 million. The Rangers are paying him 138/7. His contract will not handicap the franchise... especially one that has no issue adding payroll.

Did I say he was trout? My point was the even the best players in baseball struggle when they first come up.
He made is major league debut at 21 years old. That's a big deal. Is it worrisome? Sure. However, to compare him to Carter based on 13 at bats is just asinine.

no you didn't say he was trout, but the reason guys like trout can struggle and then come back and be great is because they are far more talented.

I have an opinion as well and it's this:
I'm all for spending money on free agents.
But not until the right time, and not until we've established our core of prospects on the ML level...which we're doing right now.
This offseason I expect us to spend some cash. But I am firmly against bringing in a free agent who will take away at bats from our more promising prospects.
I want to add a LF and a DH to our existing core. And maybe a stopgap SS, although I'm fine with letting Marwin & Kike platoon.
The sooner our future gets major league experience, the better we will be, and the less we have to spend on FA stopgaps.

You're too quick to devalue talent for immediate ML impact.
As much as we all would like for it to be the case, the Stros are just not in the position for a win now business strategy.
We've got 5 guys in the everyday lineup under 25 years of age.

The amount of Rangers fans has decreased rapidly around here. $135 million payroll
I told this board two years ago the Rangers were heading back to their historic levels (that being a team which, if it were a business, would have been forced into Chapter 7 bankruptcy years ago). Everyone thought I was wrong.
Now look. Between Elvis, Prince, and Choo, the Rangers have at least six more years of bad contracts to pay before they can even hope to rebuild. (The latter two deals--both of which I said were bad deals--are squarely the fault of Jon the Moron.)
The Astros may still be a long way from playoff contenders, but they're trending up.
(Oh, and for those who hate Crane's lack of player salaries, I completely agree with it. If you know you won't be competitive, then why throw good money after bad? He also borrowed a lot of money to buy the team--and assumed a bunch of old debt as well--so why not take the profits and pay off the creditors? By doing so, the Astros can be the financially healthiest team in the long run, able to make deals that the Rangers cannot.)

i'm not making a win now evaluation on Santana. I'm making a win ever evaluation. I don't think he projects to being much more than a carter type player who can also play the field. I know he is young and there is a possibility he develops somewhat but I don't see it.

But Prince isn't the only bad contract.
Elvis signed a big deal and hovers around .250. He also has problems with RISP.
Then there's Choo, who started out like he was coming back, but is now back down to where he's been the last several years, maybe a solid player but nowhere near the contract he earned.
I've already told my SO that if Jon the Moron is still GM next year, I'm not going to any more Rangers games. He's run this team into the ground; if any of us did this to a business our heads would roll.

The amount of fans hasn't decreased. But starting threads about a team that has used the DL a major league high 20 times this year is rather pointless.
Mentioning the payroll when significant hits to it are out for the year is silly, but I expect nothing less from a Houston fan.

Lineup as a whole is almost 2 years younger than the next team and 3 years younger than league average.
