Freaking unhappiness snowballed quick.
Tried the piety ideology and spreading my religion. Used a lot of faith on ground units. d idnt produce enough happiness. Apparently storming a city and forcing a religion down their throats creates angst..go figure
Shoulda went all game of thrones red wedding style on them when they were passing troops thru my city during an open border agreement earlier in the game

If you declare war during open borders it will kick all enemy units out of the borders.

That is why you use great prophets. IIRC, those guys ignore borders and can convert a whole city to one religion with the spread faith action.
