Need some suggestions or input regarding universal remotes.

Someone is looking to buy one and came to me and I really don't have a clue these days.

They want something with the external infrared sensor so they can put boxes hidden. Logitech always was one if the best options I knew of but haven't kept up in years. Not sure if anything newer / better stands out these days.

Budget is approximately $200

you want a programmable remote, not a universal remote.

and yes, get a logitech. try out a $30 harmony 520 refurb..it works basically the same as the more expensive ones..they all connect to logitech's cloud & you input your device model #s and it will do the rest for you.

if you want RF in addition to IR, you'll have to buy a more expensive model..but they do the same thing (except through walls).

I've got a Logitech harmony that I got from radio shack for like $70.. Very easy to use and setup , plus its pretty durable.. I dropped it on a glass of water accidently and it's still running strong

LINK

Logitech Smart Control $99, I own one. All my devices are hidden in a cabinet and works flawlessly from any room in the house.

Can't link because I am on my phone but I have 2 Harmony 900s and both have been excellent!

All of my equipment is in a closed cabinet and one remote has to go 30 feet to reach it and it does it like a champ

Get an RF solution. It's much more reliable.
