Are there any starter websites one could invest small amounts of money with little risk just to learn the ropes? Thanks on advance..

That thread will help. Also, I beliee yahoo finance will allow you to set up a fake account through them. You get like "$15K" to start with and you invest how you wish. It ten mirrors the stock market.

I once wanted to dabble int h market. Then I realized that real traders feast on newbies to make bad deals. It helps them win.

Institutional investors own about 70% of the market. You probably aren't smarter than them, and you certainly aren't better informed. Diversify as well as you can, preferably with a low fee index fund, and build wealth.
If you feel compelled to "play" the market, make sure you aren't doing it with much money. That way, the lesson learned will be much cheaper.

Doing it that way, you aren't going to make any money, so you might as well try this.

You can create your own stock market game. Manage a portfolio with fake money, the site will keep track of your profits/losses for you.
That's if you're wanting to invest more than trade. If you're wanting to trade, that site won't be very good practice because the quotes are not in real time.
