Bradley and Dempsey

I will admit that I don't know the most about soccer in the whole world, but do follow the premier league a fair amount and also played club until I was 14. I only say that because I know there are people who know much more than me and can correct me if I'm wrong. To get to the point, weren't Dempsey and Bradley out of position the whole world cup? I feel like they have taken a tremendous amount of flack but the loss of Altidore really put them in roles they aren't as comfortable in. Dempsey is a great player, but definitely not a 10, and Bradley seems like he is a great defensive midfielder, but not the type we need as the attacker. Are there current players that can fill the roles these guys have provided (or tried to provide) or are we going to need to radically develop someone for these roles over the next few years?

Yes. Dempsey isn't a point man and Bradley most definitely isn't a CAM.

I'd say you are generally right.
Dempsey is not a guy who plays forward up top by himself. In my opinion, Bradley wasn't impacted by Jozy's injury nearly as much. I think this was a tactical decision by Klinsmann who thought Bradley was better and more adaptable than he actually was (I think many of us thought the same thing).
You are certainly right that this Cup was not the ideal situation for either guy.
I imagine Jermaine Jones will retire from the US team either in the next few weeks or 2016 after Copa America. Depends on what he wants to do. After that point, Bradley's role will definitely shift and become more defensive. In the meantime, i would also be surprised if we use 2 DMs behind Bradley since that is only a good strategy against teams that are noticeably better than us.

Whatever Bradley was meant to have been this World Cup, he certainly was not. I tried to defend him at every turn, but eventually his mistakes were more than I could bear.
He didn't just play below expectations (which, admittedly, were very high). He played poorly.
