Do shotgun shells go "bad"?

I was helping my parents clean out an old storage area last weekend and came across a nice big box full of 12 and 20 gauge shells that I think are from the 90s or possibly 80s. Any reason I shouldn't use these shells this fall?

nope, no reason not to if they've been kept dry, and you should be able to see signs of moisture.
eta: I'll give you $4 box for those old damaged 12 gauge shells.

I shot 3 boxes of shells that were 30 years old last week without a problem.

I've shot ones from the 70s before. The wad disintegrates as soon as it comes out of the barrel like a piece of paper, but they shot.

Watch out for corrosion on the casing, it could be weakened and cause a malfunction

We cut open some 10+ year old shells last year. The powder was clumped up and looked like it was in terrible shape. You could instantly tell the difference between the old shells and new when you looked at the insides, but it shot. If we wouldn't have cut them open, we would probably never have known the difference.
