Best solution for International phone, text, data: Bahamas

Leaving on Friday. I'm with AT$T. Wife is with Verizon and daughter that texts non-stop also on the same plan.
For me, I have Skype and can bump to International plan for phone calls over data, and the resort, Atlantis, provides Wi-Fi. If I just forward my phone calls to my Skype number would I be okay or do I need an International plan from AT$T.
Also, what do I tell the daughter to do about texting? Is there a good texting app for iPhone that uses data, not SMS?

If she's primarily texting other iphone users, iMessage is actually over data. You can turn off SMS so it only sends iMessages. iMessages are blue, SMS are green.

Switch to T-mobile. International coverage is free.

My sister just went to Europe for a month, and we used Tango to text and video call when we needed to. Free on Wifi

Wi-Fi everywhere. Just keep it in airplane mode

I used to call att and just add the country is was going to for like $15. Then cancel the coverage the next month.
Other than that, make sure there's a WiFi Sig in your place there.
Btw, international texting is free

Silly me. They WERE on Verizon until last month and made the change/switch to T-Mobile. They're covered.

This makes 0 sense...Airplane mode essentially disables the wi-fi...

I use Talkatone when I'm abroad. I turn off cell data and it works fine on wifi, except in parts of Europe where those bastards are stingy with free wifi.

Airplane mode will knock out wi-fi, but then usually, if I recall correctly, you can then turn on Wi-Fi but your data will still remain off, so your phone won't try to use minutes or data and charge the hell out of you.

You can have airplane mode enabled (cell radios off) and wifi on. How you think in flight wifi works?

Call att and get international plan for 1 month then drop it next month.
