Our young defensive front vs. Wisconsin's running game...

WISCONSIN BADGERS Offense: 7* Technically, running back Melvin Gordon isn't a returning starter, but considering he led the Badgers with 1,609 yards rushing last season, we'll make an exception. Quarterback Joel Stave is back for his third season as a starter. Four offensive linemen return, including second-team All-Big Ten lineman Rob Havenstein, but receivers and tight ends will need to be found. Defense: 3 In essence, the Wisconsin Badgers lose their entire front seven, though they return several players with starting experience on both the defensive line and linebacker. Safety Dezmen Southward is the only starter in the secondary who doesn't return. Safety Michael Caputo is back and finished second on the team in tackles (63). Special Teams: 2 The Badgers split place-kicking duties, as Kyle French and Jack Russell combined to hit 14-21 field goal attempts. Punter Drew Meyer averaged just 38.6 yards per punt, and only six of his 50 punts went for 50 yards or more.
Yesterday, I watched the South Carolina-Wisky Bowl game. USC never had an answer for Gordon. He will be the best RB we will see until we face Bama. Our defense will have a huge challenge to start the season. LSU's run defense vs Wisky's run attack will likely be the deciding factor. Wisky returns 4 OL and their starting QB. Everyone knows that LSU's defensive interior will have 2 new starters and all the backups are freshman. This will be our 2014 version of the 2011 Oregon game. This is gonna be good!!!

I wish we still had Honey Badger.
Dat would help.

This is where im really, really worried.
Young DTs have got to step up, because if Welter is still Welter...well, we're in for a shootout and/or watching our safeties making about 10 tackles each.

I'm really not looking forward to it. Everyone seems to hyping up Welter around spring practice and summer workouts and for some reason I cant remember ever a player going from really bad to really good in 1 season.

I think LF may get 100 rushing yards on his first game if they replace their entire front 7

That's why 2 lockdown corners are so important. We can help with the run defense.
But, I agree, stopping the run is the key. That, and our QB play.

I think the Dline will shine this season. A lot of young hungry guys and a deep deep rotation

Across the board, our athaletes are better than their athaletes. We win big. Won't be close. Big Natty talk commences after game.

I agree. Thomas and Lacouture have got to show out. Last year the DT's had a hard time shedding blockers and getting penetration. Very crucial they can get enough penetration to disrupt the play or at least keep the LBers free to roam (easier said than done I know) but I think if we can bottle up their run game for the most part and make them throw the ball they'll have a long night in Houston.

I once heard Mike Detiller say that Anthony Johnson tried too hard to make the big play. Many times Johnson didn't play his gap responsibility which allowed teams to get big runs. I'm hoping that the youngster will play their responsibilities. Also, I think our LB play will be much better with an extra year of playing time. The game versus Iowa's run attack was very encouraging.

I'm not retarded. I'm poking fun at all the sports journalists who add the extra morpheme in speech.
See? I'm smart.

I don't think it's the tortoise vs the hare. Gordon can flat out fly.
So could Oregon.

You are so right about our CBs. I think we have to lockdown the WRs in man to man and load the box. Wisky likes to play with two or three TEs. We will have to load the box. The only thing I hate about that is if anyone is out of position Gordon has shown great cut back ability and speed. He kind of reminds me of a combination of Felix Jones/Darren McFadden.

That's true. Oregon had a lot more speed all over the field. Playing Wisky isn't your ordinary non-conference game. They aren't TCU or UNC. This match-up is equal to the Oregon game as far as quality of opponent, winning tradition, and big game experience. They have all of that. I am anxious to hear the practice reports before this game. It will be interesting to see if we have any defensive changes along the front before the game starts. Also, I expect Mills will be back for that game. The other safety spot is wide open in my opinion. We need another guy who can come up strong in run support. Neither Thompson or Martin impressive me last season.

Wisconsin's secondary is supposed to be their strength this fall.
