Hayward is good, but a max deal?
Look around the NBA at players that have max deals. Hell...look at our own team at a player that has the max deal.
Yeah...it happens. I'm not surprised at all.

The problem is that the Jazz will likely match. So that means the Suns will still need to keep Tucker.
With having Gerald Green and drafting TJ Warren, I wonder how much of a priorty Tucker is to the Suns. They also have Marcus Morris who got 40% of his minutes at the3 last year.

Good points. But if they completely wiff on major FAs, they have so much cap space they must just say, frick it, lets just keep this in place. Hard to know.

Yeah, I think it's more likely they trade someone out of the logjam rather than just letting Tucker walk for nothing. Part of the problem is after the Asik trade we might lack the assets to trade for Tucker if we needed to give him the full MLE. However, Green only makes $3.5 million, so we could trade a scrubs package for him. Or maybe we could S&T Smith/Aminu for Tucker.

Right, a prime example of why I thought people would be less inclined to just throw max deals around.

Plus if the reports are true and Suns are also planning on making a case for LBJ and/or Melo then I'd say PJ Tucker is definitely a possibility via sign-and-trade
I would not be surprised if we signed PJ and the Suns didn't even match...with LBJ, Melo, Parsons, Deng, and Hayward in free agency they are looking to hit a home run
I can at least hope

Its certainly possible, especially if we strike early while lots of options for them are still in play.

You are right in that they don't seem satisfied with Tucker as the SF of the future.

Hey, when is the Asik deal supposed to be official?
Posted on 6/30/14 at 11:43 am to TigerinATL
I guess I haven't really seen it discussed much (I didn't read much of the Asik thread), but does the Asik trade pretty much ensure that Smiht is gone?

I'd assume that with the Asik trade Smiht is gone
I don't think the Asik trade will be official until tomorrow but that's a guess

Between July 1st and July 10th teams negotiate, but no deals are allowed to be signed until the 11th (I've seen several people saying they've seen the signing moratorium ends on the 8th this year rather than the 10th). So it's unlikely the deal becomes official until the moratorium is over and teams start submitting their signing deals to the league office. I'd expect to hear about what will actually go down several days before that though.

I'd say it's up in the air and depends on what we have to give up to create room for Asik and if we have to do a trade or S&T for a SF. I can see situations in which you lose both Ajinca and Withey in the process in which case bringing back Smith as your 4th big is a no brainer. Honestly I think Asik is a bigger threat to Ajinca than Smith in terms of duplicating what you bring to the team.

The only way I see it is if Anderson gets traded IMO

Houston is a surprise there. They must be seriously considering not resigning Parsons. Or at least working on a backup plan in case he signs elsewhere.

That is surprising.
They are making a real hard push for Melo.
