I have no idea if this should be here, OT, or Money board but figured the range of posters here I may be able to get some info.
Anybody ever driven HotShot or know people that have? Ive kinda bounced the idea around in my head. The wife doesnt like the idea of me being gone days at a time but I figure I can stay pretty busy in state and it cant be any worse than working night rotation shift work. No idea how much money is in it but if I can hit 40k a year it will be enough

40 shouldn't be a problem. main expense will probly be 1 ton diesel and flatbed trailer

You can make that pretty easy

Contacts, contacts, contacts and not the kind for your eyes
40k a year will be no problem. You can probably make that 4x over depending on how much you run.

I had planned on buying a new truck in August so this would kinda work out.

This is another thing. Independent or for a company like Acme

My worker thought about doing that on his off days. We would both drive. If he buys the rig im all in

My hot shot driver charges flat rate $3.10/mile from the time he leaves my shop until the destination.
A guy that used to work with me actually bought a Ram 3500 and 36ft gooseneck. He quit our company and went in as owner-operator with an established company. That was great because they already have the book of business, so the only overhead he pays is fuel/maintenace and his truck note.
He made around 15k the first month, but that was stretching all the way out to North Dakota, Wyoming, etc. Subtract fuel and other expenses and that number obviously drops a little.

You could hit 40K without trying. As someone else said... This is all about contacts. Good luck if you take this venture
ETA: up in ND hot shots are charging by the hour. Anywhere from $100-$500 depending how bad you need it. One shitty producing well up there is 100K/day when it's shut down. EVERYONE pays top dollar. Those rates don't include fuel which is charged by the mile also

On my current budget, if I can bring home 1200-1300 a month after expenses ( fuel, ins, note, etc) I may do it
Posted on 6/27/14 at 4:36 pm to FelicianaTigerfan
You can bring home 1200 a month at McDonald's!!

You might also look to pick up some inland/offshore accounts down south when you get established. They dont give a frick about money they just want their parts to make the boat.
My shop in Lafayette is always having to get parts hot-shot to Fouchon, etc.
ETA: Another example, I just had my hot shot driver deliver some parts to Ruston area. Shreveport to Ruston, roughly 1 hour, I got a bill for $250. You can make some money if you are available.
I have gone through about 3 different services over the years, but this guy always has a driver available, and he never turns down any of my trips.

We have a Hot Shot that delivers to us occasionally when I need some material to be available in the middle of the night or on the weekends
Never thought about them being an independent contractor

We used some good guys when I was at fire tech. My boss, at the time, was real close to getting in to that business but when the owner of fire tech wouldn't let him use the gooseneck, he backed out

Holy cow Perceived...for that kind of money I'll drive anything you want up to, in and around ND! How do I get started?
Seriously, this sounds interesting. (PolarPop and WayneParker)
