I'm not being condescending. It truly is ridiculous people are taking that statement literally.
As for McElroy's statements, he said the words. The words mean what they mean. McElroy may not believe the words, but he said them.
As for the truth of McElroy's statements, the statements are bullshite. Saban was the beneficiary of excellent timing. LSU had just witnessed what happens when the football budget is too constrained.

It was a team effort to show that LSU could be a powerhouse with a little TLC and money. Just like it's been a team effort to take the torch, run with it and sustain excellence unlike LSU ever has.
