building one of those doesn't exactly seem like building a fence.

my Dad owned his own contractor/construction business for 30 years so he is kinda handy

he might be on to something, is there a stream, or creek, or an artesian well in the vicinity, my dad was a contractor as well, and he was pretty good at this sort of thing

Still, it seems like one of those things that sounds really cool in theory, but in reality it goes like this...

"Did you build a pond in your backyard?"

"No, that's my natural pool. Wanna go for a swim?"

"...Nah, I'm good."

Or a bubbler but I think it gets too hot which breeds unwanted organisms and whatnot.

I agree

digging, placing the liner, design...not worried about all of that

but getting the filtration right would be the key and most important part

They're cool, but I'm weary of how well they'd work out in the south.

These have been discussed on here before. It seems great for certain climates. But, as said earlier that it would not be very ideal for southern, humid climates. Will be a breeding ground for all kinds of bugs and critters.

Where is your dad located?

then who are you to tell him that it will be an epic failure?

he's a grown man, let him dig a hole and fill with water and plants. The cottonmouths and mosquitoes will thank him

I mean if there is a well on the property, it could theoretically work. Know a guy with a several acre pond of a rice farm that constantly trickles water into his. Is very clean considering it's a pond, but i wouldn't use the word pool. Although we used to swim in it with no second thoughts. IDK if he would want to constantly pump water though

Say good bye to your inheritance. That looks like a money pit.

Then stock up on fishing supplies. You'll have quite a fishing spot at some point.

That's pretty awesome. The trick there is the water stays cool all summer due to a constant water source. If you don't have access to something like that, I think the heat would turn a natural pool into an algae hole in our climate if you didn't have that source.

what are you concerned about?

Is he mentally incapable of making his own decisions? Do you know more than him?

You have to realize, people his age are set in their ways, they aren't going to change for anyone. The sooner you realize that the better off you will be.
