It's hilarious for the lone reason that he was supposed to be their next big forward, got suspended a few times/eventually kicked off the team, and now is declaring because he'd have to sit out to go to Colorado State. I honestly don't know how he lasted that long.
I'm sure one of the resident Card fans will show up to get pissed at me laughing at it though.

I like Randle, not saying I dont. But I am kinda worried about how his game translates to the NBA.
Hes 6'9 250lbs. His weight is great, but his height is considered "undersized" for the PF position. And hes not a great athlete running the floor or that explosive. He is really really strong for college ball and dominated mostly because he could just overpower people in college. Not sure if he can do that in the NBA.
Hes like Zach Randolph without the consistent mid range game. And he always goes to his dominant hand, left, and rarely uses his right.
Hes got a weird blend of size and skills IMO. He dribbles well for his position, but its not like he will be playing on the outside in the NBA or be asked to bring the ball up the court. Hes strong and powerful, but undersized and doesnt have that explosive jumping ability.
Im a fan of his and really like him. Its hard not to like him. He plays his arse off, fights on every possession, and is a hard worker and a good kid. I dont think he busts or is out of the NBA after his 1st contract or anything like that. Hes a "safe pick" IMO. He wont be bad, but I dont know if he will be consided "good" either. I just cant tell what kind of player he will be in the NBA. He could be like ZBo or David Lee, or he could be like a Brandon Bass.

Ehh he just posted like a 39 inch vertical at the Lakers workout. There is youtube video of him and Marcus Smart doing a dunk off and you can tell he is definitely athletic.

He has one, but Cal never really let him use it. Same deal as AD. It just never fit with what they wanted to do on offense. He is much more athletic than Zbo, but doesn't have the ridiculous wingspan Zbo has.
When they do all of those analytics, one of the key things they look at is rebounding rate because it one of those stats that really translates. His numbers are great there.
You have to take into account that in college he was either tripled or doubled on every possession.
I think the floor is really high on him. I don't know if he will be an all-star, but I can't see him being a bust.

It's an odd feeling to see the inherent flaw in this logic, but still kind of agree with it.
Wouldn't that apply to Payton and the Sun Belt conference?
I don't see how you can have a point guard that good and they had a good big man, and they were only good, not great, in their league, unless Marlin just doesn't adjust his scheme to his talent (like a lot of coaches).

I havent seen that 39inch very anywhere. Ive seen it listed as 29inch for a no step vert and 35inch for a max vert. That was at the combine so thats what I went off of. Private workouts are like Pro Days for football players. Some guys turn a 4.54 laser time into a 4.36 hand timed. I typically always go off of the laser times.
And he does have a good looking shot and nice touch. But he shot 70% from FTs and just 17% on jumpers, with .40points per possession according to Synergy and that is the lowest out of all PFs in this class, and 16% from 3s in college. He has a nice looking shot, but he has a lot of work to do with his mid range game before his mid range game becomes a weapon. And he shot just 39% while posting up in the paint.
And I def agree. Rebounding is his best asset. But, like you said his wingspan is underwhelming for the position. His rebounding rate was great in college, but that doesnt mean it will translate to the NBA. And I watched him vs LSU and saw Johnny O Bryant cause major problems for him 2 out of the 3 times they played.
I think he will be best taking guys off the dribble from 15ft out to the rim. He is a very good dribbler with nice moves and quicker than most post players. But Im just concerned with his mid range ability and how he will do posting up in the NBA and trying to bully his way to the rack.
And I dont think he will be a bust or anything like that. I said hes a safe pick. You know what you are getting with him. But at the same time, I dont know how his game translates to the NBA. He really is a hard guy to figure out. I do not see him being a bust or a shitty player or anything like that. I just dont know if he will be like a ZBo or David Lee or like Brandon Bass.
And I like Randle a lot. Its impossible not to like him. Good kid, hard worker, fights for everything he gets.

6'9 250lbs isn't undersized, though he doesn't have great length. He can stretch the floor, though Calipari didn't use him that way, and is a very explosive athlete.
Posted on 6/23/14 at 11:23 pm to Sellecks Moustache
Shouldnt have said undersized. His size + length isnt ideal for his position. Thats what I meant.
Shot 17% from jump shots isnt stretching the floor. And I get that he wasnt asked to do that, but he still took some jumpers.
And 1 of the bigger concerns that I have seen from scouts and analysts is his lack of explosiveness. Ive seen a few people call him an "under the rim" player in the NBA when going against NBA post players. And these are the same guys at his workouts and all that.
And the other big concern is what he will be like on defense.
And once again, I like Randle. Im a fan. I think he will have a nice NBA career. But I dont know if that career will be like ZBos or Brandon Bass'. A really good PF or an average post player better suited off the bench.

Payton will be out of the NBA in five years

For some reason, I think Aaron Gordon is the next Shawn Kemp.

I don't get what Scottie Wilbekin has to do to get some due
Prospects with "limited athleticism" don't have the second best 3/4 court sprint and lane agility times of any PG prospect as well as a standing vert of 34" and a max vert of 38".
He's going to become the next Tony Parker and draftexpress is going to eat shite

I know it's over-the-top. And extremely biased. I do think their games are extremely similar, though. Parker is a bit more dynamic in transition, but I think Wilbekin is going to surprise. Better athlete than given credit for (see his combine stats), good shooter with NBA range, great feel out of the pick-and-roll, takes care of the ball (12 TO%), great defender, has a variety of floaters he uses in the lane.

Remember UF's last SEC POY who some said didn't deserve the award and wouldn't make it in the pros?

Randle would have the shortest wingspan of any current starting PF in the NBA. He's going to have trouble with the length in the NBA (both getting off shots and defending). He's going to have to build a career off of his hustle game.
Posted on 6/24/14 at 12:25 am to GatorsGators
I think Wilbekin is going to have a long NBA career and be a great NBA back-up, but that is arguably the most stacked position in the NBA.
I like the kid a lot, I just found the Parker comparison a bit ridiculous.

Billy D's guys always seem to find a fit in the league. I'm a big Calathes fan even though he kind of screwed us by getting suspended before the playoffs. He is getting offered a ton of money to go back overseas, but I hope he sticks around in the NBA because he is a fun player to watch because of his passing ability.

Supposedly he has a perimeter game that he never showed in college. I remember when he was in high school the most common comp people used for him was C Webb.

I'm overcompensating a little.
I've had a chip on my shoulder about Wilbekin for four years and the fact that draftexpress has him as their 50th ranked senior doesn't help
