Those of you who have had Vines for FINA 701, how should I prepare for his exams? Are his exams similar to the practice problems he lists in the reading guides? As of now, I am focusing on gathering all the formulas together for each chapter.

STUDY the reading guide front to back and back to front. Attend all of the live zoom sessions and ask questions. Learn the calculations but make sure you understand what you are doing because his qualitative questions can be difficult. Anyone can plug and chug in a finance course and get by and he understands that so he will ask questions in a way to make sure you understand them. I have taken 3 of the 4 finance classes and taking the 4th this next session. In order of difficulty so far they are FIN 701, FIN 710, and FIN 730. I don't know where FIN 720 will fall but will update after this next session. I spent the most time in preparation in the program with FIN 701 and ECON 705. Good Luck and don't wait until the last minute with Vines and wing it and expect good results. He has been the best teacher in this program by far but he does require effort on the students part.

The problems will follow the same format of the practice. GSMBA has some good advice on dealing with the qualitative questions. They are tougher than the problems imo.
I would also practice typing out and working the problems in Excel. So when you work a problem for the exam you can just copy and paste all your work into Moodle. If you just missed one step or just a math error, he'll see that you basically understand it and give you the majority of the credit.

MBAStudent,
I would also recommend showing as much work as you can on the exams. Unless you are certain your answer is correct I would work out any quantitative problems in full. On the final exam one problem stumped me to the point where I didn't even bother with a final set answer, i just had multiple lines of an equation showing what I thought I should do - he gave me 3 out of 5 for that questions which helped me squeak by with an A.
Socal,
We have the same schedule next term. 751 should be fairly easy but we may have to help each other along in ACCT 701 depending on how much it has been revamped.

Just have the equations typed out with the variables defined in word. That way if they are needed for the question they are ready to go. The rest of it you should be able to just type in your own words suring the test.
Read his weekly write up over and over. Then make sure at minimum to read through the transcripts of the zoom video conferences and watch any recordings. Sometimes you can't make them all, but he was good posting the recordings and transcripts if you couldn't make it.
