I am thinking of getting my online MBA from LSU Shreveport, but I am unable to find anybody who has completed any of the program. I am trying to figure out the difficulty of the courses, so that I can determine if I will be able to double up on the classes and finish within a year.

If anyone knows anything about the program, please let me know what experiences you have had with it.

Thanks

Go the executive MBA route. Meet people that want to succeed and advance.

Connections are the most valuable takeaway from MBA classes....don't be limited by online classes.

I don't know anything about the LSU program, but I have taken online graduate level courses from well known brick and mortar schools, and the time required to complete the work was huge compared to a going to a traditional class, this seems to be a common trait among online programs.

The LSUS online MBA is a very good program that is very challenging. The courses are compressed into a 7 week format which requires you to stay on top of your game. It's difficult to take more than one class per 7 week session. Also, the program is AACSB accredited. Only 5% of business schools have this distinction. It is by far the cheapest AACSB program on the mArket. It's perfect for those who are in their careers and just want a MBA to sharpen their existing skills. However,I wouldn't recommend it for kids coming out of undergrad without any experience and who do not live in Louisiana. A brick and mortar MBA is only good for networking and finding a job. You can learn the content without stepping foot in a classroom.

My question is why is LSU's program $44K vs LSU-S's $13K when they are both online, basically the same format, and the same school system. i mean I am an LSU grad, but I don't see hoe the name carries that much weight when it looks to be the same thing.

LaTech's program seems to also be similar to LSU-S and roughly the same cost.

I have two more classes to finish for my MBA at LSUS. Started before they converted to only online classes. Overall the classes weren't hard for me. Some are easy, others harder, just like any other college. You will probably need to devote around 10 hours per week since the classes only last 8 weeks. Most of the professors I've had are very knowledgeable. They could be teaching at any college in the country. Dr. Bigler is the Dean of the MBA program, also teaches the capstone class, he has decades of experience consulting for numerous companies. I'm pretty sure everyone of those professors had some serious credentials.

Edit: Didn't see this thread was over a month old.

Online MBAs are stupid, unless you work in some government job where your pay is determined by degree instead of performance.

If you want an online MBA, pick up some books and read them, it's the same education.

I am halfway through the program, and it has been much more difficult than I expected. Most recently, I completed Marketing 701 with Dr. James. The workload was unreal. I spent about 30 hours a week on her class alone, and I'm a straight 'A' student who understood the material very well. There was just too much writing required. Over seven weeks, I wrote collectively more than some master's theses I've read. Students were dropping like flies.

I'm going to stick it out for the entire program, but if you haven't started yet, I would look elsewhere.

Good luck.

I am 90% complete with my online MBA and very satisfied with the program.

Overall, the LSUS Online MBA program has been excellent. I have learned many valuable skills which I am able to incorporate into my current career. In addition, the discussions have allowed me to grow my network to include other leaders from various disciples.
If you have a full time job, like I did, then you probably should try to talk to another student before taking more than 1 class per semester. Some classes (MADM, MKT) require more than 20 hours a week each. Other classes are very straightforward (BADM) and can be accomplished in 10 hours a week. Previous students can help you create your schedule so that it will work best for you. Obviously, these requirements are all professor dependent and subject to change, but it should help you gauge your time.

Pros:
1) Accreditation (My employer covered 25% of the cost because of this)
2) Challenging (Topics are current and relevant)
3) Similar curriculum/textbooks as most other US MBA programs
4) Availability of concentrations, if preferred
5) 100% online
6) Very affordable (One of the cheapest in the US)
a. Note: When calculating costs, factor in textbook costs of $150-200/class on average
7) Online forums to allow discussion. Generally, each class requires 1-2 discussions each week.

Cons:
8) MADM classes require a LOT of writing (20 pg papers in some classes)
9) Group projects in 50% of classes
10) Exams can be very tricky at times (ex: A + B, but not C type questions; essay questions)
11) Grading takes forever. Many profs were about 2-3 weeks behind on grading
12) ProctorU (Many online university classes have this now… It is very intrusive. Only 2 classes had this, but I think it will increase. Google it)
13) LSUS is in a growth stage. There are some classes that have had enrollment increase 30% and LSUS is having a challenge trying to keep up. It has caused some class-scheduling difficulty, tardiness in receiving grades, and lengthy discussions. However, I know they are working to correct these issues, and I think we will see a good change over the next year when things start to level out.
14) The recruiters and staffing office have NOT taken the LSUS MBA and do not know the actual time/money requirements; do not trust them.

Any other questions? Just ask.

I'm doing Auburn online. Its usually top 10 in online rankings and only about $800 a credit.

My company is paying for most of it and I need it more for a checkbox on my resume than connections. Although I will leverage the connections as much as I can. They have events where you meet fellow classmates and you take your tests with proctors instead of online.

What is the scheduling and payment like for the MBA courses? Can you schedule and pay for them a la carte as you go? How does it work if you want to stretch it out over 24 months?

The reason I'm asking is because my employer will pay $5500 per calendar year for graduate degrees. If I can spread it out over 3 calendar years, then I could do it at very little out of pocket cost.

Back in 2008, I was watching CNN one night talk about ranking the best affordable online MBA programs. I used their list when searching for my school. I ended up choosing Texas A&M University Commerce because they were ranked #2 on the list at the time and they gave me the most money which helped me to go there for free.

Here are the 2016 Rankings LINK

Does anyone know anything about Amy Wren and MADM715 Labor & Eploy. Law?

I was interested in the class as an elective but decided against it because previously Felice Williams was listed as the instructor and frankly, one class with her is enough
Now it has Amy Wren who has a stellar ratemyprofessor rating but I don't know if she has ever taught this class before.

Hello everyone! I'm planning on taking MADM 760 with Meeks this upcoming semester and wanted to get some input. The syllabus seems pretty straightforward. But after taking Marketing with Dr. James I can never be too sure anymore. Any info is greatly appreciated.

New joiner with an anticipated start date in August.

I work full time in public accounting and my plan is to take 2 courses each term from August through December. January through April, I plan to reduce to just 1 course each term during busy season.

Although I'm an accountant, I enjoy writing. That said, what 4 courses are easy/light enough to double up on for my first two terms in the program? The general consensus so far seems to be ACCT 701 and FIN 701 together. I guess I'll go with that, but what other two courses are recommended to tackle together?

Thanks in advance.

I'm enrolled in FIN 701 w/ Dr. Meeks and i'm trying to get a head start since he already posted all the material. Is there anyone out there that has the 15th ed textbook pdf by any chance?? dropping 200 on a book for a semester is not my first choice.

If there's anyone out there willing to help out please send it at: edwin.hernandez10@upr.edu
