Ok So I took Felice Williams MADM701 as my first course in the program, and found the reading a bit of a pain to get through with my schedule, but by no means undoable. I have Gibbs ISDS705 this term, and it is WAY easier requiring a lot less time, and more user friendly to complete the weekly assignments.
MADM 701 and ISDS 705 are like opposite ends of the spectrum. Most things will fall somewhere in between with only MKT 701 and MADM 760 being at a similar level as MADM 701 in terms of time demands for core requirements.

There will be times when we must work with others based in different time zones, so I think the course is a great exercise in that regard.
This is actually a really, really good point. Although the difference will be that usually collaboration with others in different time zones involves everyone being on work hours, or working with a vendor (in which case they work with your hours). It's still a good point, but dealing with time zones at work tends to be easier to coordinate.
Now... dealing with lazy/incompetent team mates at work.... The class can definitely help prepare you for that!

Im not sure how I feel about the team canvas. We haven't really looked into it yet, but it looks to be more involved
I'm thinking it should be easier than the weekly PowerPoint videos in a few ways:
* No video seems to be required for the team canvas
* The canvas itself is a pretty simple exercise - I personally use the lean canvas to evaluate my own business models
* The write-up will take a bit of coordination, but we've (hopefully) been doing that with PowerPoints up to this point

This is a big issue. Time zone coordination is just part of the puzzle. If this were a job, coordinating these videos would be much easier. We also have to coordinate around people's work and family schedules. My team, which is spread across three time zones, has two members that work nights, with one working graveyard shift. The only time we can meet is Saturday mornings, which is fun when you have kids and about 12 hours or so from the submission deadline. Very little room for error.

I've got to hand it to my team. Everyone really stepped up their game once we got into a rhythm. Still looking forward to finishing this whole exercise.

I'm worried about my notes for ISDS 705. Is just having the definitions enough or do I need to try to copy from all of the links he posted?

Definitions are enough, but you need to make sure you have all the definitions from all the reading, including articles and links, and the "notes". I had one test where I might have missed 3 questions, all 3 were from the one linked article that I happened to miss by accident. It was like a 5 minute read, but the information wasn't anywhere else and I didn't notice that I missed it until after the test (because I was trying to find where the heck those questions came from)

Baroq,
Almost five weeks down in the class and all your insights to ECON705 are bearing true. I instinctively started taking the same route as you did... control what I can by making sure I got 100s on all the preliminaries each week so that I have a little wiggle room on the final assessments.
Dr. S constant engagement in the class is showing and everything is just clicking now because of his explanations. He puts in huge effort. I totally see his "Gold Status" now.
I see the announcement for FIN740 actually recommended ISDS 702 as a good class to take first. I really think the school push this as a preliminary class to be taken as early in the program as possible.

That passion for the subject shines through and drives his passion to help others love it, or at least learn it. The class is NOT easy, I struggled pretty hard and put in countless hours every night in order to barely earn my A. My strategy was going over the three assignments and assessments over and over again until I was absolutely sure my answers were 100% correct. By getting mostly 100's on the "easier" stuff, I was able to squeak past the end of week assessments.

That sounds like a good plan. I didn't know earlier, but it seems ISDS 702 is a good preliminary course for more than just ECON 705.

Actually... ISDS 705 should be reduced to a foundation class, 702 should become a requirement, the version of 710 that was provided for the first 3 weeks (learning basic R) needs to be turned into a real class with a different number that should also be a pre-req before FIN 740.
And Marketing and Analytics can continue to share ISDS 710, but as a 4th option. With 702 as a core, Analytics concentration can have the HCAD, ISDS 710, ISDS (whatever the new R course is), and FIN 740.

thoughts on pairing econ 705 shaugnessy and mkt701 darrat?

Not the best idea, but you have to pair it with SOMETHING, right? Scroll back a couple pages and read my reviews of both and decide if you have the time commitment available. I posted approximate time needed plus "A" strategies.
It really depends a lot on your math and writing abilities, whether you're aiming for a 4.0, and how much time you have. MKT 701 isn't difficult, but weeks 3-5 are pretty time consuming, Econ IS difficult, but if you already happen to understand regression and some of the math stuff, that will be a big help.

ok.
i dont' have a lot of time. so i'll have to re-evaluate, but everything is full for now. i'll have to keep my eyes open or just go to 1 of those for ap1.
i've been trying to save your review posts to a word doc.

LIN test #2 . ProctorU experience was not so delightful. 35 minutes to get setup. Im pretty sure my proctor was setting up a dozen people at the same time.
I cringe every time I see a class that uses it now.
