Ambrosio is a great Professor!

I agree. I enjoyed Ambrosio. He is one of the good guys. He really interacted with the students and made an effort to make sure you understood the material.

ISDS 715 Project Mngmt classmates:
Have y'all noticed that the syllabus shows that we are to have 7 weekly quizzes @ 70 points each, however the weekly schedule only shows a quiz the first 6 weeks and a final the 7th week?
I emailed the professor about this last week but he has not responded to the last 2 emails that I have sent him.

@bobbygreene90210 and Business Knight
I am in Acct also this term. Overall I like how quickly Ambrosio answers questions and is always available. He seems like he cares and always responds and corrects issues. However I completely agree with what Business Knight was saying. It may have come across wrong but he wanted to inform others what to expect. The fact is Ambrosio tells us to concentrate on the power point slides and skim over the text if we are pressed for time. This is not a good Idea. Both quizzes and assessments have been word for word out of the book and not out of the power point. You can find some of the answers in the slides but the questions are straight from the book. So i do not understand why Ambrosio thinks the slides are more important than the reading. I read and take notes on every chapter as well as read the slides and supplemental material he provides. That is what this forum is also for, to inform our members on here.

I think he's a good guy, but he does actively teach at 7 or 8 colleges around the nation and is also a lawyer outside of that. If you are having any difficulties I would recommend reaching out to him directly with the moodle chat, he is very responsive. My advice to do well is to read the chapters. I print everything so its rather easy for me to remember where things are with notes and stickers and whatnot.

Thanks for the continued insight into ISDS715. I plan to take this class in the near future but may delay it until the bugs are worked out, it looks like a train wreck at the moment.
IMO, they need to get some more consistency in course quality to ensure that this program carries weight.

I'll preface this by saying when I had Ambrosio, the class was easy and straight forward. The 2 "incidents" we had was that the time limit on the first test was really short and something like half the class didn't finish, so the grades were far lower than they should have been. He responded by curving everyone's score up something like 10 points to get the grade distributions right.
There were also technical problems with the site (Cengage, I think) for the final and a bunch of people weren't able to take the final exam before the deadline. In response he offered to let people skip the final and take the grade they had before the exam or they could take the exam at a later date, which bled into the period between classes.
Both were fair solutions and people on the forum seemed satisfied with his responses.
However, it sounds like this time it's really disorganized and his advice is (unintentionally?) misleading. I understand he's a busy guy. When we had him it sounded like he was frequently traveling the world while teaching - like an accounting Indiana Jones. However, that can't be his excuse.
If I can't say, "Sorry my assignment, exam, paper, etc. is late. I have young kids and a demanding full time job. Give me some extra points.", these professors shouldn't be able to say "Sorry my class sucks. I'm really busy. Here are some extra points." and everything is cool. No one should be okay with that, unless all they care about is getting an 'A' stamped on their transcript so they can be on their way.

Haha that is funny.
I completely agree with you! We are all crazy busy (I cannot even tell you how many hotel rooms I have taken exams in) so it should not be an excuse.
I just don't know how hard an open book open note exam can possibly be if you put in the effort (not discounting technical issues like you mentioned!). Someone was upset about a question in the last exam not being mentioned anywhere in the book, and that was just completely inaccurate. So I just think that some people in these courses want that A without actually opening the book.

Hey there, who did you have for ISDS 705? The only offering is Gibbs
Posted on 1/29/18 at 10:57 am to drkgsMBA2B
Most of us had Binshan Lin for ISDS 705. I'd expect this course to change from the experience everyone who has already taken this course had with Lin. I think the word has gotten out.

Thanks for the prompt response! I've just been accepted to the program and am currently scratching my head as to what class to start. Can you offer your recommendation? Keep in mind that I was not a business major in college.
Econ 705 White
ISDS 705 Gibbs
Madm 715 Wren
Madm 760 Heller (I heard Meeks was good but no feedback on Heller)

3 of these are with new teachers that nobody knows anything about. Wren is the normal professor and that's fine.
MADM760 - take with Meeks, he's one of the better teachers in the program.
ECON705 - take with Shaughnessy, he's a good teacher also.
ISDS705 - people like Lin's class, as it's supposed to be super easy (never taken it / not required as I'm grandfathered into ISDS702 instead)
All three of these professors are still teaching with the program, you're seeing the overflow classes. I would wait for ECON705 and MADM760 at least.

Sounds like a plan. You know anything about Wren and Empl Law class? Her reviews were very mixed on rate my professor which made me nervous as this would be my first class. Based on your review (which I agree with), I would be looking at isds with Gibbs vs employment law with wren

I had none of those 4 professors you listed.
I have had great success scheduling thanks to this thread and its fine contributors making recommendations
Vines and Meeks are great for any class. Ambrosio is fair. Lin is top choice if the course hasn't changed. Shaughnessy can be tough but I enjoyed the class.
I took Choi for FIN 730 and he grades pretty easy if you put the work in.
There is a back and forth in this thread regarding Knotts and Williams for MADM 701. That will be my last course in the program come Summer AP1, so I'll just be taking whoever is available, and pair it with the new ISDS 710.

I got you. Yea from pouring over the threads, it appears not much intel is given on these professors as much. Seems like they're switching it up a lot. Idk which of those classes I want to take.

quote:I had White for the BADM 701, which was the ECON and Statistics pre-req that's no longer offered. It was the worst course I've had in the program and I'm currently on my 8th class. I'm not sure if that was White's fault or just the reality that he was having to cram 2 courses into 1 but I hated it.
Econ 705 White
Definitely go with Shaughnessy for ECON 705. It's one of the better courses.
And go with Meeks for MADM 760. If he's not available for when you want to take it, I'd try to take something else and then hope he's teaching it the next time around.

Do you favor math style classes or writing classes?

Lin is still teaching ISDS705 for AP2, I'm registered for him. That said, his section filled up incredibly fast. There must have a been a great demand for ISDS705 in AP2 since the second section (Gibbs) is nearly full at 42 seats left.
I've learned that early registration is a must in this program as slots fill up incredibly fast.
