Dear Fellows:
I am from Dallas, TX region and considering to start my MBA journey with concentration in Fiance, this Fall ’17 or Spring ’18 (Jan.)
I need some guidance. I have a full-time demanding job along with a young family. My work also requires me to be on-call 24/7 every other week. I am still passionate about taking this MBA journey and will strive to put my hardwork with a little guidance and mentoring from you all here. I plan to allocate 15-20 hours at the MOST in a regular week. I plan to create a work-family-study-life balanced schedule.
Now I have got a few questions:
1)First of all, can you recommend the sequence of courses I should be taking? Initially, assume I will be only taking 1-course in a 7-year session. Which one should be the very first course, second, and third and so on? I am coming from IT profession.
2)Is there any course, doing which makes some other course(s) easier, for better understanding and laying a good foundation; so I sequence it ahead of the other?
3)Based on your experience, can you please state which courses are research/writing assignments ONLY and which ones involve ProcturU as well? Please update the listed ones below:
ECON 705:??
FIN 701:??
MADM 701:??
MKT 701:??
MADM 760:??
ISDS 705:??
FIN 710:??
FIN 720:??
FIN 730:??
4)Please also state, in the list of MBA courses, which ones got cumulative (entire book) exams and which ones got “non-cumulative/recently studied and chapters after the 1st exam only?” In short, Exam-1 contains from day-1 to chapters studied upto exam-1, exam-2 only includes what is studied after exam-1 upto exam-2, exam-3/final only includes chapters studied after exam-2 upto the final day. Please update the listed ones below:
ECON 705: Writing only or ProctorU? If proctorU, is it cumulative or non-cumulative?
FIN 701:??
MADM 701:??
MKT 701:??
MADM 760:??
ISDS 705:??
FIN 710:??
FIN 720:??
FIN 730:??
5)Are the quizzes and ProctorU exams “open-book, open-notes” or otherwise?
6)How much money will I need to spend on books/e-books/notes etc? Has anyone got any “cost-effective, online subscription” option for getting e-books like Kindle Unlimited, Book bub, etc? But I am an old school and prefer having a hardcover in the hands, under the tree than ipad/nook etc.
7)Is every course listed in the MBA degree offered in each 7-wk session? Or are there certain courses which are only offered once or twice a year and you don’t want to miss enrolling for them?
8)What’s the graduation requirement? Do we need to make B and above in each course including the two pre-reqs?
9)Does the grading system only involve A, B,C or also +/-?
10)Do professors also offer extra credits and/or multiple attempts on the quizzes/exams/writing assignments?
11)Are there courses which are offered by more than one professor in the same 7-wk term so students can choose one professor over the other?
12)From the list of electives, I have to pick one. Can you recommend the easiest? Which one have you all or students in general take? I understand, one should look for a relevant course that will help build on knowledge & expertise one is going after, but if one has to weigh on easy A, which one do you all suggest?
13)Is there any group of seniors, students recently graduated or about to be very soon, who can be contacted over the emails/phone for personal advice/discussion/motivation?
14)Does LSUS provide a dedicated adviser/mentor who works with a specific student throughout the degree?
15)Are there any study groups, private tutoring or volunteer students, or any such help where if one is stuck or struggling with a course, can seek guidance/tutoring?
Please feel free to provide any gotchas, tips, etc that you feel may help newcomers like me. I wish everyone good luck with their current studies and hope that my questions will also help many aspirants with their confusions and questions too.

3.0
Yes, B and above. You can make C's, but no more than 2, and you really don't want to be on academic probation.
Basically, strive for A's and B's at worst.

Yes, 7 weeks is the duration. Certain courses are only offered at certain times.
Hope this helps.

My advice is to read through prior posts in this thread and you will find the answer to many of your questions. As for the others, good luck. You are asking too many questions at once and some of your questions can't really be answered. For example:
"Please also state, in the list of MBA courses, which ones got cumulative (entire book) exams and which ones got “non-cumulative/recently studied and chapters after the 1st exam only?” In short, Exam-1 contains from day-1 to chapters studied upto exam-1, exam-2 only includes what is studied after exam-1 upto exam-2, exam-3/final only includes chapters studied after exam-2 up to the final day."
Here's my best attempt at helping you.
1. If you are only taking one course at a time, sequence shouldn't be an issue as most courses are offered every other term. Make sure to plan your schedule around when the FIN classes are offered.
2. I am three courses in and I haven't noticed any courses building on previous ones.
3. All MADM and MKT have research and writing assignments. No clue about Proctored courses other than ISDS 705.
4. Not even trying to answer.
5. Depends on the professor if notes are allowed on Proctored exams
6. Varies with each course. Several posters here will share the e-text they have. Some courses like MADM 760 and ACCT provide you with the text at no charge.
7. No. There's a course carousel provided by the school as to when each is offered.
8. 3.0 GPA for good academic standing
9. A,B,C, etc. No + or -.
10. From my experience, no extra credit. Some quizzes will have multiple attempts. Varies by professor/course.
11. No. Classes are offered once per term so you're stuck with whoever is teaching it then.
12. Haven't attempted any electives yet, but have heard MADM 751 and MADM 720 are both great courses to take.
13. I am neither so no help here.
14. Once accepted, you'll have someone help you through the process. After scheduling, LSUS assigns a student worker to you for your first three courses to help with any questions you have.
15. Rely on Moodle discussions or reach out to the professor if you need help. Many have Zoom sessions, which is like Skype, where students can ask questions and they'll help you out.
This is just a quick summary. Utlize the "search" function on this board if you have questions about specific courses. Chances are, it's already been asked or answered.

mbapilot: TLDR it all
Yes, I generally find 15-20hrs / week is about right, but some courses will really push these limits. Others require a lot less time.
These are basically "summer school" 7 weeks to cover a semester of material which can require some serious time if it's new to you.

Does anyone have the BADM 700 AND BADM 701 e-books they are willing to share?
Acct 2 Godwin. I don't know the name of the other book for Econ/Stats intro.
I'm starting MBA fall 2017 but do not have previous business experience. It would be nice to read up on the course material beforehand.

samyn,
Both of these classes had mandatory subscription codes for the online components for me. BADM700 I had a physical textbook for the accounting portion (with Cengage code) and I didn't find a current digital copy of the finance textbook (which was only needed for a couple of chapters).
BADM701 had a Pearson MyStatLab subscription for the stats portion and a McGraw-Hill subscription for the, both of which included the texts. The Pearson stats book was inaccessible several times due to site maintenance, but I was able to extract the stats texbook PDF from their Android app (since it functionally was just a wrapper) and can share that. Their app was really awful to use.

Did you notice increase in course fee starting from Fall?
They added below two fees and not sure how these are applicable from online MBA students(especially athletic fee).
Course Activity Fee $18.00
Course Athletic Fee $42.00
Did anybody contact cashier's office about it ? I contacted MBA Coordinator, Student Coordinator and Cashier but could not get any meaningful information.
Any thoughts ?

I did notice the difference because it didn't say that on their MBA site. Although, technically it did say that they have the right to raise prices at any time.
Just curious what was their response?

MBA coordinator and Student Coordinator has no idea about it. Cashier's office only could identify new components. But don't want to remove them even we are online students.

LA schools are notorious for jacking up fees for no apparent reason or explanation. LSU main campus is over $1200 in fees this coming semester... that's half of their tuition.
I don't doubt that the coordinators know nothing about.

Hey all,
Has anyone taken the MADM 710 exam yet? If so, do you mind sharing how tough it was? I haven't been doing too well on his exams.

Is anyone else struggling to narrow down a topic for the Synthesis Paper for MADM 760?
Its so broad that I am not sure where to start.
Can we discuss topics from the text in the in relation to our "story" in the main body of the paper or just in the justification section?

Benny, I'm with you. I need something to focus on to narrow it down. I'm going to email Dr. Meeks and get his input.
