Is there any reason to believe they won't be playing for the tie?

Because Germany and the US will both be pissed about these last two results.

Germany is pretty much through regardless. Their goal differential is too strong to overcome barring a miracle.
They do need a confidence boost though. I don't think they're going to play nice. Should be a hell of a game.

Germany doesn't need to play to win or to tie, they just need to play to not lose by 3 or 4 goals....technically they haven't advanced mathematically but it would take an act of god for them to be sent home thursday
