Anything to whore for a buck.

It's already legal for in home use in AK. I feel like I'm in a time warp and back to the days of "reefer madness."

Police administrators across Alaska worry that marijuana legalization could mean increased costs for their departments, according to survey results released Tuesday by the Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police.
AACOP estimates the cost of legalizing marijuana could mean $6 million in unanticipated costs for law enforcement in Alaska if the initiative passes this year. The association says much of those costs account for what they believe will be an increase in drug use, specifically among teens and impaired drivers.
Of the police chiefs surveyed, 75 percent said if marijuana were legalized they would not have the resources needed to deal with the potential impact to their communities.

So they don't want to lose all of that seizure revenue.

So they will need more money to regulate less? What kind of backwards arse math is that?

Just goes to show 75% of police chiefs are either stupid as frick or liars.
Or both.
Probably both.

Fewer arrests, fewer people in prison, less time spending looking for fields and pouring over electric bills, less lawyer time. Less court time. Less paperwork.
Absolutely no way, the increase in DUIs offsets the massive decrease in time spent prosecuting weed.
They all know the simple fact that legalization means less money for their budgets which eventually will lead to layoffs.

Whatever it is, it's required to be a police chief, evidently.

That's because most officers are not intelligent people.

They will say and do anything to protect their cash cow. Disgusting.

A lot of these chiefs are old school and come from training that illegal drugs no matter the kind are the worst of the worst. They will find anyway to call this a bad idea no matter how much information is out there to the contrary.
I don't blame them necessarily because they have had this drilled in them from day one and human nature is notorious for now accepting change.

Through the first 5 months of legalization, violent and property crime was down 10.1% from 2013 numbers in Denver.

Exactly they're trying to set up a new justification for their bloated budget once the drug war is 1/2 over.

So they're losing the argument on logic and switching now to money. Predictable.

Nailed it in the first thread response.
Stossel did a whole program ten years ago or so about the incentive cops have to do drug raids, and it has nothing to do with getting dealers or users off the street.
