Native Slayer 14.5 jump test
If I'm not mistaken, someone on here has one. I think there was a thread a while back. Anybody have some experience in one of these?

I was deadset on getting the Slayer 12 for about a year, then I looked at the Jackson Cuda. I think that's my next one.
And yes, I think someone did a review of the new slayer on here.

The Cuda 14 looks great. I prefer the open bow and stern hatches of the slayer. And the deck on the slayer looks bigger (giggity). The Cuda is still in the running, if someone were to talk me out of the slayer.

I haven't yakked in either of them, but here is what puts the Cuda ahead in my book...
Built in rod holders and rod straps - this plus below makes milk crate unnecessary and makes room for ice chest
Middle storage for tackle - see above
Dry storage for first aid, peroxide, towels, etc

I had a Slayer 12 briefly last year that I sold and bought a Slayer Propel, so while I never had the 14.5, I am very familiar with the layout and hull. (Propel is essentially the same as the 14, just modified a bit to fit the Propel drive)
They're good kayaks- meant to go toe-to-toe with the Jackson Cuda and the WS Ride135. I like the open compartments of the Slayer over its competitors closed hatches (I also had a Ride 135 at one point) Of course, you can easily stand in the Slayer and the whole boat is basically a rigger's dream- you can pretty much do anything to it.
As for this "test", it's great that the guy can jump up and down on his cooler, but it serves no practical purpose and shouldn't be a compelling reason to purchase a specific kayak. Honestly, I am more impressed by the people who walk to the bow of their kayaks and fish and pole while underway. . . that takes a good deal of balance and dexterity!
Hell, I think I could put a 6ft ladder on the deck of my Pro Angler 14 and pole the flats looking for reds! (uh oh. . . now I'm getting some ideas! )

native makes great boats. I have two Manta Rays and a Magic.
Are those scupper plugs? Deck seems a bit low for scuppers, more canak-like, comparable to a WS Commander.

Biggest reason I like this one. (Ok, maybe not the biggest. But it's a big deal for me). Plus, if you want it closed, they make covers for them.

Why I'm not concerned about rod holders.

No argument here. I don't plan on doing jumping jacks in mine.
I guess my next biggest concern is speed and tracking?

I have a friend that has one, he loves it. we both thought its a little slower than a WS ride 135 (which isnt the fastest boat either) but just as stable if not more so.
i love the wheel in the back for dragging, i need to replace the rubber dragging plate on my 135 probably after this summer, it's lasted about 1.5yrs of pretty heavy abuse as an fyi

Have you considered the Jackson Big Rig
The Old Towne Predator 13
or the Ocean Kayak Prowler Big Game 2
The Predator and Prolwer Big Game look awesome. The Big Game is more geared toward ocean/open water fishing while the Predator is intended for shallower water applications ideally. They seem to marry both the open concept with immediately available dry storage as well as some front hatches for longer term storage. Definitely worth looking into.

Can't really help you, speedwise as I never had the 12 rigged with a gps to measure how fast it was. I could tell you the Propel could easily maintain a 3.5mph cruise, and I got her up to almost 6mph with some effort and wind at my back, but that won't really help you when ascertaining speed of the 14.5!
Tracking wise, the general rule is the longer the boat, the better the tracking. I had a Ultimate 14.5 that tracked very well, but I did have a rudder (which I would recommend that anyone put on their kayak) Seeing how the Slayer paddles, I don't think you would have any tracking issues, other than wind pushing you while in the hi seat position.

Heck, I wish I could afford all of those boats!
Good food for thought. I've definitely looked at the big rig. I'm trying to use my experience on the water in my Pescador 12 to determine what I think I'll need in my next yak. So far this thread is definitely giving me some things to consider. Thanks guys

Yeah, I saw your thread. Nice looking yak!
I'm probably gonna have to go demo some of these.
