Five rounds total. First long (injuring Libyan "friendlies" inside the Annex compound), second short, last 3 struck the roof, inflicting the two American deaths and two very serious American injuries. It was the first and only mortar attack on Sept.11-12, and very possibly involved individuals who were nowhere near the Special Mission Compound 7 hours earlier.

A two round adjustment (where was the spotter?) in the dead of night leading to a three round fire for effect (and that was the only mission fired) lends itself to a greater degree of preparation that would be found in a local militia.

Not the brightest guy in the world, but I kind of know this Army stuff.
