Need some advice regarding Kamado Joe grill

So I recently got engaged (no pics. I will GTFO shortly), and for my shower deal I am having people get me gift cards/cash for a Kamado Joe. So I have come to the dilemma every grilling man comes to.... should I stick with the 18 inch Classic or go big and get the 24 inch Big Joe?
My main question is how much of a difference is the Big Joe? I really just want to be able to smoke a couple racks of ribs and a brisket. My sensible side says "Get the 18 inch you tard" but man in me says "Go big." Essentially, my mind's telling me "no" but my body... my body's telling me "yes."
Give it to me straight, is it worth a few hundred extra bucks?

If you get the Big Joe you will burn more charcoal or have to setup the divider for the smaller cooks. However the Big Joe is also the only one not on backorder right now which is something to consider. I wont have my Joe until July. But I know how you feel. The KJ Classic will easily cook a brisket or 2 port butts and if you get a rib holder a whole bunch of racks though.
18 is the practical choice. But the 24 is the never look back choice.

I've never heard a man say, "Damnit I wish I had gotten the smaller grill."

BTW have you lifted the lid of a XL BGE or a Big Joe? You might be able to pass that off as part of your exercise routine.
See after you get married you have to justify all expenditures. But never ever question the $1500 a year in shoes she bought.

was just about to say the same thing. if you've got the room, grills are like TV's, always err on the side of bigger.

Plus other people are paying for it. Or he is having to chip in only a small amount for it.
Biggest factor for me is that I have a WSM, a Weber Genesis and have the Kamado Joe on order. I just cant justify the other 500 for the Big Joe. If this is his only grill now is certainly the time to get it.

Exactly. I think I'm just going to see how close I get to the Big Joe. If I'm still gonna have to shell out a big chunk I will probably go with the Classic. The thing is I've cooked on a Big Joe before and fell in love. Now I have an opportunity to get one and I'm gonna do my best to seize it.
In regards to charcoal and smaller cooks, the dividers are a game changer for me. Otherwise I would be pretty set on the classic.
Thanks for the replies.

If you've got enough money just get he big one..............cant go wrong.
I have an 18" KJ and can easily but a whole brisket. I think I've done 4 racks of ribs too.........if not it was certainly 3.
If I was buying a Kamado today............Id probably go with the primo XL just for the added space.

Any of you guys have the Joe Blow? Seems to do its job, but wanted to see if anyone has had an bad experiences with one.

I have a primo xl and have filled it up many times. So glad I didn't get the regular. Usually cook a big batch of chicken or whatever to have dinners or lunches for the week already prepared.

Those blow dryer starters just seem like a waste.. It can't do anything that a starter cube doesn't do equally as well. Just another gadget to have basically.
