whats the prices on the rides?

Don't know the formula, but depends on what you get. UberX is like a Honda Accord. It's cheap, comparable to a normal taxi. Uber black (original) is a black car service, it's cheaper than reserving a car but more expensive than a cab. Ditto for Uber SUV.

In SF, they had tons of options, UberTaxi (uses local taxi drivers), UberX, Uber black, Uber SUV, Uber XL (extra large SUV) and then UberLux (bentleys and whatnot).

Dealing with the assholes who answer the phone with united is never a good experience.

You can't ask them how long it will be.
you can't get a thank you for your service.
you have to call back every 5 minutes the cab isn't there.
You have to wait outside for the bar or house until they show up mostly. A few good cabbies will call you to let you know they're on the way.
Their cars are dirty.
They often smell like shite. Cigarette smoke is an issue.
I gotta wait on the assholes to run my CC because half the time they claim to be broken bc they want cash only.
Half are talking on the phone in a foreign language for the duration of the trip.
Overall just shite customer service.
Shall I go on?

Me and a buddy hitchhiked from LSU avenue/highland rd to get into South Downs the other nigh and got a ride from some random girlt. We didn't even bother with a cab. If uber came we would have background checked drivers? Sign a brotha up. frick yellow cab.

They do BG checks and driving checks. All of mine have been very good. Every now and then you get someone who is obviously new and needs some help getting somewhere, but that is rare.

sorry but the service isnt as bad as the OT thinks it is.

uber seems cool but id still just call the cab service first

its pretty bad, you shouldnt have to befriend a cabbie and get his number to get reliable service.

I Uber and Lyft everywhere. They're both fricking awesome.

If Baton Rouge doesn't get that, they are missing out. Baton Rouge would be a great place for them too since the cab services are some of the worst I've ever seen in a major city.

Wife and I use Uber regularly n Memphis, Nashville, and Charleston. Like twice a week regularly. Open the app, order a car, get a notification that it's outside, get a ride home. Charge for ride and tip taken from paypal account and I get an invoice.

I used regular cabs for years. Never really had a bad experience, but Uber does the same job, better imo.

i wasnt really talking about the act of contacting a particular service. just talking about how im pleased with the cab situation in BR for the most part and that this new service cant be that much better in terms of getting me home for a low cost

You didn't answer the question though. You would rather pick up the phone and contact a cab company over opening an app and clicking one button?

And your opinion is extremely biased because you have personal phone #'s and use the same cabbies. You can't see the forest through the trees.

People who haven't used Uber that are bashing it look like morons in this thread. Its 100x easier than calling cab.

Its great. And you rate your drivers and such so you can get only drivers with 5 stars, etc. Also ends up being cheaper than cabs usually.

Also, they rate passengers so if you puke in a couple Ubers, chances are they aren't coming to get you again.

ETA:

Workflow-

I open app, click I need a ride, and I pick a driver. Takes less than 30 seconds, its all automated with GPS so no addresses, and credit card is connected to Uber and you don't tip. It just deducts once you get there.

If the car sucks or the driver sucks, they don't last long on Uber or Lyft because their ratings will suck and no one will choose that driver(main competition).

Freeman thought he had done the responsible thing by planning a ride with the Uber car service, until he got his bill. "The next morning I got the email and I opened it and I was like, 'wow,'" said Freeman. Freeman and four of his friends rode from East Nashville, to Hermitage, close to Brentwood, then back to the Gulch, a total of 46.07 miles.

The total cost?

"It was in your face: $546," said Freeman.

Freeman isn't alone. Uber's Facebook page is full of complaints. "Today I found one with somebody who paid $731 for a ride in Texas," said Freeman. It turns out, Uber charges a so-called "surge" during peak times and it can be uber expensive. The company warns people about it before they make a purchase, but doesn't say how much.

Find me a cab anywhere in Louisiana that will take 3 people from the Bulldog to Happy's downtown for $6.73 with a tip. And I use that as an a comparable time and distance.

A. This doesn't say if he made the guy wait for an hour in the car.

B. It doesn't say the outcome. Uber customer service gave me 2 free rides once because I wrote them an email saying a driver didn't show, even though he did show up 2 minutes after the email, his app was just down.

You can track where they are as well. So when my fiance rides alone I can see where she is, what the guys name is, and what he looks like in his profile picture.

It tells you when peak/surge pricing is going on. It's pretty obvious. If you go 46 miles in a cab while you're at 3x surge, you're going to get dinged, obviously.

FWIW, I've only had surge pricing 3-4 times in the last 6-8 months that I can recall. And this usually involves going out when something big is going on, so it's not like it's hard to avoid.

ETA: and it is a cool company. I get stuff all the time (just got a 20 dollar off any ride coupon today) by email that makes it worthwhile.

When AU was playing in the SECCG, I got some Auburn code for a 20 dollar off ride. In the summer they do Uber ice cream, where they'll bring ice cream to your office. At Christmas they will deliver Christmas trees to your house for a set price, etc.

Ah yes, forgot about thsi. If you take it on New Years Eve or some shite you'll get surge pricing WHICH THEY CLEARLY WARN YOU OF. I take Uber several times a week and never had that issue.
