Prime example of "rubbernecking" causing more problems.

Right now there is a lane blocked I-10W at College with congestion back to Bluebonnet. That is pretty typical for this time, not great, but not horrible.
I-10 Eastbound however there is no obstruction at all and the congestion is all the way back to West Baton Rouge on I-10 and the Governors Mansion I-110 South.
Slowing down to look at the accident makes you part of the problem.

Thanks for the headsup.
I'm heading out to the LSU GC now and I'll avoid I-10 and take Perkins/Burbank into campus.

The frustrating thing about rubbernecking is there's not really anything that can be done after it starts. People say "oh well I'm already going at a crawl, it won't hurt if I look since everyone else is too, plus I can't really go anywhere anyway..." The few people who just want to get on with their trip and keep a reasonable speed, the good guys, can't do shite though because of everyone in front of them.

Pretty much this, even if most don't care to look, it just takes one person to slow down to jack it all up.
It's just frustrating to have a longer queue with no obstruction.

Saw three wrecks within a few hundreds yards of each other on the way to NOLA last Friday. No doubt that the last two were rubbernecking.

Can't wait for the driverless cars even though they will whisk you out of sight of all the good sights.

All lanes are about to be clear, but the point is.
One lane blocked West came out to 4 miles of congestion
No lanes blocked East came out to 7 miles of congestion across two interstate systems.
This just should not happen.

I never look. No matter how crazy or awesome whatever is causing the traffic is. It's one of the few principles I follow. I also look over and shake my head at all you people that do look. I look you in the eye until you feel shame because you know what you did. You know.

Eh, I think you'll have the ability to choose less efficient routes.
And that is probably a good thing for the country. If you aren't doing the driving, you are probably more likely to check out some places along the way that you wouldn't do today. Could be a real boon for some places.

I'm pretty sure OP's job is to watch traffic.

They prefer this word.
It's not the interstate, it's the mainline.
It's not a US highway, it's an arterial.
