How could it somehow be better to lose in an earlier round than to lose in the finals?

I didn't say anything other than it's a more fair question to ask 6-6 vs 6-8. Not 7-9. As far as my second sentence, I am saying going undefeated is very impressive as opposed to going 6-8. The first Finals you can't say much as it was LeBron only. But the 2011 Finals, the Heat could have won had LeBron shown up. Going undefeated is hard and it adds to a discussion when talking about a player's "will to win" or their "killer instinct".

I understand it's better to get there than to not at all.

Because if you and your team are good enough to get there then you should be good enough to win it all if you are truly the GOAT.

It's not even that he got there and lost. It's that he got there and disappeared.

MJ may have lost in the early rounds earlier in his career but he never disappeared for a whole series. Especially not in the finals.
