quote:It wouldn't bother me one bit. But I think the reason Wood doesn't get a lot of criticism is because he was actually good. Jackson has been really, really bad since he's gotten here.
Also i don't expect it to happen, but you won't see me gnashing my teeth if we non-tender wood. I think his performance this year is closer to what you can expect from him going forward as opposed to last year. And had it not been for ejax, fans (maybe although i think fans still feel like he's more of 'their guy' than ejax, and he's not handsomely paid) would be screaming for his head.
Another topic we all himmed and hawed about last season was the Cubs are going to have to make room for Addison Russell in 2015. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Javi Baez is traded for pitching.

True, he was playing off previous good will.

Yea i think you and i have discussed this before. Baez, while good, isn't this FO's guy, and he doesn't really fit their mold, other than the goal of obtaining as many power bats as possible. I think the cubs position a month or so out from the trade deadline will dictate a lot of his future. Because a mid season call up of russel and you can still get all those guys on the field at the same time...or at least that's the take away i always get from hoyer preaching 'positional flexibility' when he talks bryant in the OF some, moving russel/baez around the diamond.
When being competitive in 2015 seemed a bit too pipe dreamish i would've bet that castro went to the mets for one of their young pitchers, but I just don't see how you can do that now.
