not going to make much if anything of it, but that wasn't exactly encouraging from Turner. Of course it means little to nothing considering he's had absolutely no time to work with Bosio, but the unrealistic fan in me had hoped to see a different pitcher.

also, a triple from Bryant. He's now ready for the bigs.

and I know it's off topic from the players, but I expect some if not all of you got the email from the cubs about starting renovation, specifically having utilities come out and change/move pipes on sheffield so that they, presumably, can start working on the new clubhouse as soon as the season ends. While that in and of itself isn't huge news, i think it's important. Only because earlier this year you had players like rizzo saying things like 'yea we've been told that before...guess we'll just have to wait and see" which wasn't encouraging. But it really sounds like shovels will break ground soon (even the rooftops lawsuit didn't name the cubs, probably because they don't want an arbitrator deciding the issue) which will be a nice thing to point to when trying to woo free agents. Also adds to the wave of positive cubs stories lately.

The defense behind him didn't help at all, but it still wasn't good.

I'm not discouraged. Skip Schumaker hit two really good pitches from Turner. One was a ground ball against the shift it looked like. He's got great sink on his fastball and he throws hard. There is a lot there to work with. This doesn't seem like it could be a Chris Volstad failed reclamation project. Volstad's stuff was very flat.

What a great night for Soler.

Also, the Cubs hired Baseball Prospectus' Jason Parks to be a scout. Nice.
