re: Barry Seal Thread: Was he stupid or did the judge screw him, or both?

He knew to much. In the movie he would fly low over the swamp and dump bails of coke out the back of his plane in the swamp and airboats would be waiting on them.
he knew so much about gun smuggling and gun running if he lived and blew the whistle on the feds while in jail it could have been a disaster for the Reagan administration. So just get him whacked.

Bush(41,) or Ollie North could probably enlighten us

They're not going to compromise an entire operation (and operational history) for 1 guy - they probably did the best they could do for him under the circumstances (and by "they" I mean the guys who knew him) - clearly the PTB wanted him gone - Polozola was a Carter appointee and fairly liberal, overall. He was kind of a hardass at times, especially on what he considered corruption, but seemed extra prickish with Seal - I figure that's what came down from above.
But, Seal never stopped working for the CIA.

It wasn't political, necessarily - again, Polozola was a Carter appointee who butted heads with Reagan's people - it was because of what he could expose all the way back to the early 60s when the CIA was a free-for-all (pre-Church).
You ever hear of Porter Goss?

I'd say a judge forcing him to live at the Salvation Army was pretty much a death sentence for ole Barry.

Barry was a smart man that got in way over his head. He was involved with the highest level of government. They should make a movie about his life. Just what I know is extremely interesting.
Did you know he had an airport in Ascension Parish?

This isn't info pertaining to the OP's question but there is a secret landing strip tucked away off of Summerfield Rd in Prairieville on the Amite River that Seal used to bring in the coke.
I thought it was off of Hoo Shoo Too road? One time my friend and I were going down Hoo Shoo Too and we passed a long arse driveway that looked awfully like a small runway and he said that was Barrys landing strip.

Can someone post a google earth imagery of this landing stripe? I am curious where it is.

I'm guessing this is it

That is it. Sorry for my double post. I didn't read all the entries. He used to land there like clock work one day during the weekend (I forget which day) late in the evening. I would later learn a parish cop would always be sitting in a camp driveway about halfway of the road at that time. Make of this what you will but the last part is personal observation.
After his death I met his brother. He is fixed wing and helicopter licensed also and worked with/for Barry. He had some stories!!

I believe that's it. I knew a couple of laid off airline pilots that got taken under his wing , so to speak, they were well liked, well thought of guys, both ended up dead from unnatural causess

Wow! After reading an article on him (now lost when I had a computer "upgrade") and talking to his brother I still don't know if the gov't whacked him or the cartel did it.

just an observation, NOT a political statement, but it seems, in the eyes of a Republican, another Republican can do no wrong, especially if it's for our "greater good," albeit highly illegal, and unconstitutional

It wasn't secret around here. I knew who it belonged too shortly after it was built and before I had ever heard his name. No one publicizes a privately owned grass landing strip down a gravel road.

This could go political in a heartbeat but I'll submit this is normal procedure by both sides of the isle. I could fill a book with current admin. but I'll just mention one, Fast and Furious. They all do it.
