saw it tonight, really liked it. I don't know why the hate for the old cast, I like both the old and young versions of prof x and magneto.
though I don't really see how any of the events of X1 or x2 would take place in this new universe, Magneto and mystique clearly aren't on the same side, the relationship between professor x and her was never mentioned in those movies, etc. I guess they'll have to continue to try and tie up some loose ends in the next one.
All in all probably a top 5-10 comic book movie.

Rouge still has the streak of white on her hair, to where I think Magneto still attempted it. Mystique was not essential for that plan, and maybe when Stryker tried to us Charles to wipe out the mutants, maybe Magneto didn't go to the extreme he did previously by having Charles wipe out all the humans. Just hope everyone is in a better place than they were in the initial trilogy.
This movie also effectively explains how a formerly warm and enthusiastic girl could turn into a full fledged cold hearted xenophobic killer. If she was taken by Stryker after killing Trask and tortured for years until Magneto freed her, then it makes sense why she would continue to be his right hand woman and full time killer.

I'll give you my response to that.
Old and underutilized honestly. A new cast isn't really about REPLACING anyone, it's more about starting fresh. They've just locked themselves into a certain pattern that doesn't resonate with the original characters.
I think Marsden is actually a good choice....if they would let him grow as a character, but they don't. Same for Berry and Janssen.
I do NOT, however, like Sookie or Ashmore. Iceman is FAR too dull in these movies. He has no personality and it's annoying because he's one of the most fun X-Men. And Rogue....ugh, not enough spunk, again, way too emo. Iceman is a jokester, prankster, he doesn't take anything seriously, and he always feels like he isn't powerful enough when he is. He's a great tragic character that continuously holds himself back. Rogue has a ton of attitude and she's intense. They played up the tragic part of her story without balancing it out with her ability to plow ahead and be stubborn. She's just so passive in the movies.

Honestly, they are just too old now, at least McKellan is.
