when you don't cite your source, it seems like you're just trying to act as if you wrote it yourself.
sorry for wanting to give people credit for their own comments.

well of course there are.
but some infinite sets (the set of all even and odd numbers put together) are greater than other infinite sets (all odd numbers)
Wanna try that again?

Exactly!

i hadn't read through the thread yet.
but help me out, i'm just a history major. numbers go right over my head.
i assumed i was claiming the same thing the other guy did. that some infinite sets (like the set of all real numbers) are greater than other infinite sets (like the set of all natural numbers).

You could fix the question marks and I still wouldn't understand.

this was a question on askreddit and people gave these answers to the question. it's not like it's something that originated elsewhere and ended up on reddit.

Yea, I don't get the "stole this from reddit talk".
I don't either. I think i'm gonna start responding to articles with "stolen from The Advocate" or to arseinclass threads with "stolen from wierdassnewsstories.com".

That part is true, but apparently for some reason that I will probably never understand these 3 particular infinite data sets happen to be equal.

Now that one actually blows my mind. I'm going to have to look up that proof and see if I can undertstand it.

This one really is more mind blowing than the one in the OP, which he gives no source for and after a quick googling, I can't find anything to support it either.

this is like starting a thread of copied and pasted comments from a thread on the SECrant and acting like you made them all up.
I don't think he was implying he made these up. That's pretty much assumed given the complexity of the info. Prrtty much every post is stolen from an idea somewhere else. Who cares?

you really took the time to copy and paste all the comments from that askreddit post?

That's true, but you didn't mention real numbers. You just restated the thing you had just rejected in reverse.
ETA: Now I'm confused. You actually did the reverse of that, accepting what the guy said previously but then contradicting yourself in the next sentence and reversing the order of the clauses.

- There are more possible combinations of cards in a standard 52 card deck than there have been seconds since the Big Bang.
I really wish I had MATLAB on my home computer to verify this. The wording is kind of vague, but the best interpretation that would yield the highest number would be
52 C 1 + 52 C 2 + 52 C 3 + ... + 52 C 52
It's just a couple of lines of code, but doing it any other way would take waaaaay too long.
Just did it in excel. Using the above interpretation, there are 4.5*10^15 combinations, but it's still two orders of magnitude smaller than the number of seconds that have elapsed since the Big Bang.
Where'd you get this trivia book, the toilet store?

That is cool as hell. It was funny seeing the nerdy English(?) guy get all excited at the conclusion.

It'd be one thing if you said this from an epistemological standpoint, but I have a feeling you're arguing it from a perspective of ignorance.
