As for the Pelicans... No. There isn't enough history or Spanish speakers in New Orleans to warrant this.

Except for the part where New Orleans was the capital of a Spanish colony for 40 years...

What about in the 19th century when Europeans of multiple nationalities struggled to get through Ellis Island? They learned the native language of the country they were moving to!

Well it's nice to know that you are a complete idiot with no concept of history at all. Immigrants that came through Ellis Island often times formed communities with other people from their respective countries, leading to sections of NYC for Italians, Dutch, ect. Please don't try to come across as educated on a subject when you really don't know much about it.

English is neither the official language of America, nor the native language. Bunch of xenophobes.

Do they? Do they think "we" should have to adjust to "them?"

How many native Spanish speakers do you know that think the US should put everything in Spanish? Because I've never met one.

Are you aware of the history of New Orleans?

Have you ever been to the Cabildo?

im not trying to be cool, we should not be integrating a foreign language into American sports. Do you see any Mexican sports leagues integrating english into their leagues? I don't have a problem with spainish people, i have a problem with the fact they think we should have to adjust to them in our own country that speaks english

Let me guess, you flunked Spanish this semester?

Even though Louisiana has a Spanish influence, I was more thinking about a Mexican influence. I don't think there are many Spaniards in Louisiana. And there's not enough Mexicans either. The reason it would make sense to have a Spanish jersey is to appeal to Spanish speakers. There's not enough to warrant that. And if we're going for just history's sake, French is the obvious choice.

"not enough mexicans??"
really?

new orleans has been the north american gateway to latin american virtually since it was founded. the spanish influence is everywhere you look, from the language to the food to the architecture to the religion...well, to everything

i dont care whether they wear alternate jerseys in spanish, french or esperanto, but to equate "spanish" with "mexican" is ill-informed

My hood is majority Hispanic now but I live on the Westbank so it probably wouldn't matter as most of them are probably Heat "fans."

To make money because in order to pay for all your young stars you have to sell jerseys and tickets and that type of stupid shite appears to mexicans I guess.

Stop catering to the illegals. There isn't even a big Mexican population in NOLA. If anything, do a French nick-name.
