Even if you could get Monroe for the price of Anderson, which you won't, it's just a bad fit. Anderson draws a big out of the paint opening the lane for guards, Monroe wouldn't. Even if he scored as much as Anderson, he wouldn't be creating more points for other players.

Now, although I started a thread arguing against the small ball fad, I also think you're going to see the price of decent bigs start to come back to earth a bit. Monroe is not worth a max contract in this league. In reality, paying him more than about $9M per could be a huge mistake. Being big does not make you a max player. There are no Shaqs in the league that deserve a max salary.

Not so sure. Having a good offense with two non 3pt bigs can be done. SAS (obviously), but Memphis had an offense just barely worse than the Pels, with no one as dynamic as Davis on the roster. It would require ball movement and spacing we haven't really ever seen from this team, but the passing of Davis/Monroe could make it work.

Now defensively, I see much more difficult problems with the pair and with the scheme

There's only one Ryno, and he's on our team. The rest 3pt shooting bigs aren't nearly on his level in terms of efficiency.

So how in the world do other teams get into the paint from the perimeter? It's obviously not impossible. Ryno is a great luxury. I'd love to keep him. But if there's a good deal to be had, I say capitalize on it. Granted, that doesn't mean throw in 100% for Monroe, though I think he'd be a good fit for our offense.

Defense? Not so much.
