Do we finally utilize a short passing game next season?

Inexperienced quarterbacks, young WR's, all American under-utilized TE's. We all know from last year we cannot and will not have the Mett to Obj/landry on a third and 15 for a 1st down this up coming year. Does Cam finally use the TE or short passing game to not get us in the 3rd down and long situations this year? Seems like the perfect answer for inexperienced qb play and would neutralize the defense stacking the box to stop our run.

This reminds me of 2008 with the short game passing offense.
Also, which one of our TE's is an All American that is under utilized?

No. Cam wants to stretch the field and he has the weapons to do it.

Yeah he might want to stretch it but we dont have Metts slinging it this upcoming year. Risky if you ask me.

CAM> CROWTON
All American TE's coming out of high school I meant to say. Washington this year and gonna have to look up last year's but he caught like 4 passes last year.

Cam is better than Crowton. Just your post made me think of all the quick slants we ran back in 2008. Eventually the defense caught on and turned into quite a few pick sixes.
And big difference between a High School All American and a NCAA All American.
I would like to see us utilize the TE position more in the passing game as well as RB's. Maybe they can stretch the field and hit check downs as well.
Mett had a big advantage with OBJ and Landry. He forced some balls that Landry and OBJ came down with. Ole Miss on the other hand is a game they did not come down with those balls.

Cam has stated that the TE and FB position will be greater utilized this year much more than last year. Whether or not that translates to a "shorter" passing game, time will tell. I think he's expexting Neighbors to be a factor this year. LINK

this is the type of thing that makes me think harris will be our qb. he has a lot of work to do, and room to grow, but he has the prerequisite arm strength to back defenses off.

Harris has the arm to toss a long ball. It's the 15 yard seams and crossing routes that scare me. Mett was so accurate and JL didn't drop em.

I loved Mett's 15 yard out route pass, it was so perfect. There's a lot of nfl qbs that can't make that pass, very impressive.

I honestly think with either Harris/Jennings at qb the threat of them running will keep the defense honest. Also I think because of their mobility we will stay out of the 3rd and long alot more this year.

What's with this line? Do people just not watch the games? Mett was the reason why we we didn't utilize the TEs more. I've seen plenty articles and re watched plenty of games where a TE is either more open than the WRs, or completely wide open with receivers blanketed and Mett still doesn't get it to the wide open guy. He had no trust in that group. The new guys will definitely utilize this group because they haven't really played with any of the WRs and all of them are fairly green. FBs and RBs too will catch passes. Can't wait to see the new look O.

I don't think you can pin it down like that.IMO LSU will attack the opposing D at its weakest point. If they need to throw deep to do that they will. The completion success may not be as high as last year. On long pass plays the D gets really spread out and these QB can make them pay with their feet. In fact if Harris wins the QB job I expect a lot of long pass plays and they can be on either 1st or 3rd down. 2nd down will depend on the results of 1st down
Everyone keep thinking the O will be like 2010, 2011, and 2012, but it will not happen. Cameron does not think about running the ball because the QB is young or the WR are new. He thinks about creating mismatches with formations, sets, and players.
Cameron even creates mismatches on running plays. For example, look at Hill's big runs against Iowa, especially the last TD. He created a big mismatch against the Iowa D by placing the HB on the left side and not sending him in motion. LSU likes to run to the side of the HB back when one is in the game. If he goes in motion the D shifts to that side the majority of the time. But on that play he simply pulled him around like a pulling guard. The Iowa D could not recover fast enough and the HB made a huge key block and Hill scored easily.
You underrate LSU's offense this year if you do not think it will be explosive despite having a new QB and new WR. IMO Cameron is the piece LSU has always needed.

I don't believe that for a second. Why would we throw more to the FB and TE with an inexperienced QB? We need to just accept that fact that Miles doesn't want to use the TE as a weapon in our offense. It sucks, because it makes our offense that much more predictable and easy to defend, but it is what it is.

Cam has said numerous times he's a downfield passing guy. Whichever QB can do that will play.....

i mean... if you haven't figured out that our games are going to be run heavy this year, here's your notice.
i'd be willing to bet those qb's are practicing for that 3rd and 8 to 15 yd situation because the run won't ALWAYS pan out, and we'll see a lot of run run pass punt situations. and (stupid)people will be pissed with every ugly win, and call for the next qb on the bench, but we could look similar to 2011 if the breaks fall to us.
all of our qb's can make a 15yd pass, it's the bombs, fades and needle timing routes that we probably won't see much of until next year... or one of them figures it out.

Im liking the idea of more balanced first and second down play calls. Even last year under Cam, many games I saw more of the same ol "run run pass punt" We've recruited 4 and 5 star QB's out the wazoo for the last 10 years, you mean to tell me that almost none of them panned out to give the ability to do something besides waiting on third down to pass the football?
How about more passing calls on first or second down every now and then.
Bigger concern: Can Chavis get the swagger back on defense like we had almost every year for the last decade. I miss intimidating opponents with our defense.

I think we will see more short passes next year, more passes to FBs and TEs, as the Q&A with Cameron indicates. On that note, I think Travis Dickson could be effective in that type of role. He's had a quiet career backing up big blocking TEs (Clement, Joseph, Jacobs, Gordon), but I've always been impressed when he's in there. I think he could be valuable in a variety of ways, including lining up in the backfield on occasion. One play in particular sticks out to me from last year - Devastating block on All-SEC DE Trey Flowers to open up the right side of the field for Jennings.
If Harris is the QB, and I think he will be, we'll still see plenty of passes downfield, but I expect to see a lot more short, high percentage throws to backs and TEs.
