Back to the point of your OP.

I just spent the last 30 minutes or so researching any news source which supports the Hayride article's claim that the MoL, et al, annexation would be frozen if the SG petitions are submitted before the annexations occur.

There were more than 25 links to news articles, Facebook pages, Twitter, etc., which Google listed when I Googled "St George petition stops annexation of Mall of Louisiana."

Some of the links were for the official St George website.

Not one of the links supported Hayride's claim.

You would think that at least one news organization or even the SG website itself would say if the SG signature petition is submitted before the MoL's annexation petition is considered, that it would automatically freeze the annexation from being allowed to proceed.

Not ONE.

Commercial property owners along with residential property owners pay the cats tax inside the city. If the mall of Louisiana gets annexed inside the city they will now pay higher taxes due to the cats tax unless they got a special tax break.

If they don't I feel I along with other residential and commercial property owners should be able to sue the cats board to get the same tax breaks.

Ah yes. Yellow Journalism at its finest.

"Hurry and sign! we can stop the annexation! you must sign now!"

They getting desperate.

But they also pay less fire insurance. Probably a wash for them.

Doubt they got a tax break. They were worried about having to pay higher taxes if taken over by ST George.

The annexation has not been voted on. Big difference.

So you're saying the poll was almost 2-1 not supporting a new city? Good to know. Thanks. (BTW, do you have a link to that poll?)

And that doesn't automatically dispute the HOA meeting's results I described. There's no doubt some areas would be more in support of a new city and some areas would oppose it strongly.

A couple of questions I have is one, do the newly annexed areas have pay or could they be given an exemption when they come in?

Take a look at La. R.S. 33:2-4. These statutes say that once the signatures are certified, the governor is to call a special election to determine whether the area listed in the petition is to be incorporated. These statutes do not specifically address what happens if an existing city attempts to annex part of the area defined in the petition. It think reasonable people can argue it both ways, but SG has a good argument.

No disrespect sir, but Russian looked for thirty minutes and couldn't find that. No way you could do it in five.

I already read that earlier today. And the certification process has been described as taking months to complete. That's why the July deadline looms for the signatures to just be submitted.
By the time the certification process is complete and the result is sent to Jindal, the MoL, BRGH, et al, would already be in the city of BR.

And I see it the opposite way. I would think no areas could be annexed once the signatures are certified and the guv calls the election. But before that? I've found nothing to support that idea.

One question was did you say the Mall pays 38 million, 7 million or 5 million a year in parish sales taxes?

Second question, if Bodi White's SG bill passes, will sales taxes in SG go up to 11, 13 or 15 %?

You know my memory is shot and I forget what you said.
