Teach me to surf fish Gulf Shores

Wife and I will be down for a long weekend in the Gulf Shores/Foley area. I always give fishing a go while down there without any luck, usually due to awful weather.
Technique now: Fresh dead shrimp, peel and hook. I usually have 2 rods. Big rod I throw as far as I can, typically beyond the first sand bar. Second rod I throw in between the shore and first sand bar.
What spots should I be trying? We tried the jetties by Perdido pass last time with no luck. I was thinking near West Pass this time. Can't do Fort Morgan because the wife likes to come and her pregnant arse isn't going to walk that far.
TIA

I haven't been there in years, but go try little lagoon pass on the west end of gulf shores. It's not surf, but water rips through there and fishing is good at times

I've always had luck at the jetties on a variety of artificial baits. Use a steel leader or the bluefish will make a fool of you. What are you wanting to catch?

wanna know why the water is so clear there and in florida?

Looking to catch some specs, reds, flounder. I'm not looking to hook into anything giant. I've been told to throw a spook or jerk bait around the lagoon side of little lagoon.
I'd love to bring in a few reds.

Go to Sam's in orange beach, ask for Chris, listen to his suggestions and prosper.
I live here but don't shore fish. I have been told a few weeks ago they were loading up on sheep head and Pompano at the perdido pass, live shrimp would be best.
You should try the state park pier in gulf shores. Live shrimp and bull minnows for flounder, red fish , sheep head and etc. the Spanish mackerel should be here now, as well. You can get a Spanish rig at Sam's
Good luck!

A weight, hook, and dead shrimp will catch small hardheads, whiting and ladyfish all day. That's all I know. Have caught small sharks on it too.

If you just want to catch some whiting to eat then use your peeled shrimp and find a hole in front of the first sand bar. Use 6# or 8# line and a carolina rig with 1/2oz weight and a bream hook or small circle hook.

Caught a few very small reds last year under the pass bridge at night on OB side on shrimp.
There was construction on the GS side of the bridge dock, so it is pretty cramped and shitty fishing in that spot.
I am usually surf fishing gulf side so I use alot of squid. That gets me everything from hardheads, rays, shark, etc.
If you pay to get into the Fort Morgan park, you can just hook a right directly on to the beach and fish without a long walk, and there is a long pier before the parking lot right by the launch. We fished it last year around the curve behind the fort and caught quite a few reds, big black drum and pompono. We fished gulp shrimp and live shrimp carolina rigged, did not get much on bull minnows.
Mo Bait and Tackle and Top Gun (I think Mo actually bought Top Gun) should be able to help you out with bait and locations.

The only thing I ever catch on shrimp is hardheads.
Don't know about gulf shores but in Cameron/Hollybeach I use a spider weight, cracked crab on the bottom hook and cut mullet on the top hook. Catch big bull reds on the crab and catch sharks on the mullet. For some reason if I only use one or the other, I don't catch shite.

Have had a place on little lagoon since 1951. Water sucks right now so I would fish lagoon or surf at the west beach lagoon cut. Pompano on pompano jigs worked really fast or sand fleas. in lagoon, deep holes near sandbars that encroach from the South. top water mirror lures for trout early am deadly dudley after sunup, live finger mullet the best.

Last year I went and caught a bunch of ladyfish on a pearl with chartreuse tail voodoo shrimp. No cork, throw it in the waves and reel it in. I wasn't trying to catch fish to eat, just to be able to fish to make the most out of a shitty beach vacation so the ladyfish were fun.

A few years ago the ladyfish were making a run near the shore, you could damn near throw a bare hook into the little waves and catch them. My brother was catching them on a fly rod.
Last year the reds made a good run near the shore in Orange Beach. I was in Fort Morgan fishing that morning but I think a few people managed to run up to their condos, quickly grab gear and caught a few.
