I was wondering this, too. Never answered. Could be a possible plot point next season, perhaps.
The other interesting thing to wonder about is who makes a reappearance next season. Obviously Audrey's gone. Heller's presumably gone due to his Alzheimer's. And Cheng's dead. Chloe (besides Jack) is now the only character left from both this season and the original 24. I guess they don't "have" to bring anyone else back, but it'd be nice if they could find a way.

They can always bring back the awkward analyst from this season, the British one. That actor couldnt deliver a line without trying to suppress a "I can't believe i'm on tv!" smile. He could have been played by Ed Helms.
Seriously though, there's still Belcheck, Cole Ortiz and Michael madsen's characters from Season 8, some other former CTU people, President Taylor, etc.
