I know it sounds a little absurd, but in that situation we would be looking to make a huge splash in free agency. I was just using Durant as an example, but it was a poor choice of an example. It probably takes some credit away from my point - that we would have ample space to sign a big name.

There's lots of risk involved in waiting for 2016, though. If your plan is to go big that summer, you can't sign any longterm contracts from here on out. All contracts have to expire alongside Gordon's. So no four year MLE SF this summer, etc.

We would have a hard time making noise in the playoffs with no SF or C for the next two years. Then you get to summer of 2016, and what if you can't convince any stars to come play alongside Davis? The guys you are chasing are probably looking to play in NY, LA, like the big named guys tend to do. Then you feel like you have wasted two years of AD's talent and the franchise's chances of competing for a title.
