Bataan Memorial March Info

Anybody here ever done this?

I did it this year. Not at White Sands but at a satellite site. Very hard, both physically and mentally, but it was well worth it to suck it up and finish.

Felt great to honor those guys.

I was going to do it a few years ago, but they were going to require me to "register" the pistol in my car with some sort of "Directorate" or some bullshite like that...requiring that I let them record the serial number. Told 'em to frick off.

So no, haven't done it, and I'm not gonna.

I have an uncle that was in the death march. I believe he was POW for 4 years there. He passed away about 10 years ago, but has a great book out if anyone is interested. Very good read!!

My grandfather wasn't on Bataan, but he was a POW in Stalag Luft IV. Russian forces were closing in on the Germans, so they had to evacuate all prison camps. Marched over 600 miles in blizzard conditions across Germany for 3 months. Many died from illness, ones that didn't dropped half their weight and suffered permanent injuries. My grandfather survived it and WWII, but died before I was born.

They were truly great men, and I thank God I have never had to go through anything like my grandfather did.

ETA: it was called the Black March
