So I got some free tix this year and I want to go see Bruce this Sat. Its been 20+ years since I've been to JF. What are the must have's at the Fess and what should I not wait in line for?
Side note....where the hell should I park?

Crawfish sacks are the best thing IMO. Cuban sandwhich is the all around best fest item because of its price and versatility.
I'd park over by Parkway and walk from there. It's a good place to start and finish.
Unless you're going with a group and y'all are staking out a spot early don't excpect to see much of Bruce. Especially if you are going with the wife. Also get in touch with Twatson, he has some friends with a house around the corner. Good place to stop off at after.

Went last weekend and the pheasant quail andouille gumbo was incredible

Crawfish enchiladas
Crawfish bread
Duck po boy
Cochon de lait
No matter what you get, it will be great.
Parking depends on what time you plan on getting out there.

This.
Will head out there about noon. I know it will already be packed. I'll give ol' Johnny Twat a call tomorrow.

This. There are two on this combo plate. The delicious little fried sack things.

Prejean's?
Yes...it's good but I never get it because it is always so damn hot out there and I just can't bring myself to eat piping hot gumbo when I'm already sweating my arse off.
Other items that are good....
Cochon de lait poboy
Dibbi (Steak Pita)
Jamaican Chicken
Curry Chicken Pattie
You can actually get a whole plate of food that includes the Jamaican Chicken and Curry Chicken Pattie along with some delicious veggies and rice for $10. Really good.
Grilled Chicken Livers with Pepper Jelly
Crawfish Sack
Cuban Sandwich
Crawfish Monica - although the price seems to keep going up and the portion becomes smaller, it is still worth trying if you've never had it.

I'm going to try the fried chicken this weekend. I hate to go out there and order something so ordinary as fried chicken but it looked and smelled absolutely delicious last weekend!

Thanks for all of the rec's. Seems like I better bring some cash. This stuff all sounds pretty good.

I live in NOLA so I've had this dish a million times. Is the Fest version that good?

Those are great, but I always walk over to the gyro place and add sriracha.

I'm not sure who made it honestly. This was in the festival grounds. It may have been the best I've ever had. The pheasant and quail were good in it, but it was just so rich.
Highly suggest getting a bowl

Sounds like Prejean's. They do the same gumbo for Gretna Fest and I'd like to bathe in it if I could. It's amazingly good if you're a fan of a dark roux.
