I now have a 2000 model Tacoma 4x4 extra cab that I love the dependability of. I just had my first kid last week and need q bigger truck. I found a 2002 4 door Tacoma 4x4 in great shape. Who has one that they use as their small family vehicle and are u happy with it?l for that use?
Also, wife has SUV so wouldn't be full time use.

I was in the same boat last year and jumped off the boat recently. I bought a new 2013 four door Tacoma on 12-31-12. We had our first baby on 2-13-13. I traded in that vehicle A few months ago because it simply was not big enough for me transporting a car seat, baby gear, etc. Every time I put his car seat in there, I would have to fold down the front seat. This was a pain in the arse not only doing the first time, but also raising it when the seat was out.
I'm now in a four door F150 and have room for all the Dugar children in the back seat. The Tacoma was a great truck, just not big enough for my needs. I'm more of a portly fella (6'-2" and waiver from 215 to 225 most of the time). The day I had a new employee riding with me was the day I decided it was going back. He was 6'-1" and 265 or so. We were riding shoulder to shoulder that morning and the truck was then dead to me.

I drive an 01 four door Tacoma. Have a 3 month old son and the car seat fits fine. Plenty of leg room.
I've had this truck 9 years now and can't imagine ever owning a better vehicle.

Thanks for the input Bigpop and 4LSU. Not sure which direction I'm heading.

Well you will need some other opinions that ours because the two of them couldn't be further apart.

Oh well. We came to an agreed price, and before I could leave the house it was sold. Wasn't meant to be. Thanks for your time guys

4 door yota sr5 series but 2006
Love it. Have a 6 month old and no issues.
Of course that's my wife who's been hauling her around the past 6 months.
Either way, love that truck.

I used to have one and loved it. Wish I would have never got rid of the thing. Truck was solid. I once got in a wreck with an army hummer leaving tiger stadium after the Fla game Katrina year. Truck did well.

IMHO, it's all going to depend on the type of rear-facing car seat you use for the baby.
Some of them sit way "forward" which requires you to push your seat up a good ways or fold it down.
Some sit further back into the seat and may not require that.
Those Tacomas are good trucks, but speaking as a guy who has two sons, one of them still in a rear-facing car seat, get a bigger truck...
And, as previously mentioned, a newer 4dr Tacoma isn't big enough either.

Where did your wreck happen?
I was in a HMMWV involved in a wreck with a Toyota that night....

Thanks for the replies everyone. I ended up buying the truck from another dealer after the first dealer sold it to them in hattiesburg.

I have a 2004 prerunner 4 door. The last year of the first generation. It is good for what I want, drive to work, haul small loads or pull a utility trailer. The back seat is ok for little kids but not adults.

Gaston has one of the ugliest on the road

Mine's a Gen 2, which is inherently uglier than the Gen 1s. Once I get some tires on this bad boy, with my black steelies, it will have ZERO plasti-dip, though I may black out the rear bumper, and be pimping.

Just kidding man.. post pics when you get it all done

Nope.
The Tacoma hit us. Almost pinch my legged between the frame and the driver side fender.
We were in a 998 with no doors and I had my foot propped up on the door frame.
We were in uniform. The driver, however, was wasted and begged us not to call the cops.

Odd. These soldiers obviously were drunk or didn't have permission to use the vehicle because they gave me all the cash they had on them to not report it.

Sucks to suck sometimes,
Wasn't me or my crew though.
Dumbass privates will do dumb stuff though.
However, we took care of the drunk dude who nailed us by calling his girlfriend to come pick him up. Left his truck on the side of I-10 though. Hopefully he learned his lesson.
