Life is precious, man.
I hear ya man, and maybe the criminals should have thought about how precious it is before they broke in.
See, again, there's that cause and effect thing at play.
You know, if I wouldn't have jumped off the Empire State Building I wouldn't have splattered all over the concrete.
I wonder what would have prevented that? Hmmmmm.

Right, but why is the punishment death?

Because people who break into homes don't issue memos as to their intentions first, and because it's a preventative measure to home invasions being rampant to society, even to your 80 year old grandma when the criminal knows that it could very well end in their death as a result.
Home invasions in Baton Rouge where little old ladies get raped by animals should illustrate why people die in home invasions, and should die too.

The dude would have gotten off if he would of just unloaded on the first person that broke in the house.
Chances are, the first person would have probably died immediately. I just can't believe the girl followed him in after she heard the initial shot.

Yea, that logic/defense ended pretty quickly once he incapacitated/injured them. He had no defense to executing them in cold blood, and that's why he's going to spend his last decade rotting in a cell.

Neither he nor the criminals matter to me in the least. All I want is for this to be broadcast to the nation so fuktards everywhere get it in their head that if they break into a home, they could very easily end up very dead as a result.

First:
All of my grandparents were deceased before I was born.
Secondly: We will just disagree. I don't believe that any man, woman, or child has the right to dictate the mortality of another and pass the most severe of judgement on that.
If the guy was smart enough to lay a trap to murder two children, then he should have been smart enough to make a trap to hinder them until proper authorities would have shown up.

Then you are a victim.

PRetty much this. I think his intent was to kill whoever he found. He wasn't 'surprised' by them. He could have had authorities there on the spot.

Believe me.
I am no victim.
There are other ways to deal with problems outside of murder.
If you believe differently, than that is your issue.
Not mine.
Side note: I'm getting a little tired of your assumptions about me and the blanket statements that you've thrown around in this thread.

I'm all for defending your home, these kids were stupid for breaking into this guy's house. But the way he went about defending it is royally fricked up. He camped in his basement waiting for the guys to come to him. I'm sure he knew these kids posed no threat to him, so that makes it right for him to kill them because they broke in?
frick this guy.
*I'm not defending the victims at all. Just a shame to see two teens killed for such a stupid act such as breaking into a home.

Believe me, if an intruder enters your home while you're asleep and intends to do you or your family harm, and you refuse to make a decision that may result in their death to protect your family, not only are you a victim, but so is your family. Victims and statistics.

Sure. When the walk into your room intent on tying your wife up, you can click your little ruby slippers together and say the magic words and it will all go away.

Is shooting an intruder in your home until they stop moving murder or self defense? Not flaming, i want to understand your definition of murder. And I don't mean the man in Minnesota, I mean your home.

Why is it a shame? Because they were a young attractive white couple?
I bet if the thieves were Tyrone and Shaniqua you would not find it to be such a shame.
The moral of this story is don't break into a stranger's home, and you won't get killed by said stranger.

Yep, but who knows what was going on in her head.
I read the article but didn't see anything about how he knew they were going to break in that night. Did he just wait around for a few days after making his house look like an easy target again?

In the vein of this case, because that is what is being discussed, murder. There was never any intent to harm from the children entering the premises.

This.

I agree, but a home invasion is inherently a threat against the person. See the Sean Taylor case.

If that was the only moral of this story, the shooter wouldn't be going away for life.
