Zoloft will probably work great if it doesn't give u a belly ache.

Very common side effect. It usually subsides within a few days.

20mg Fluoxitine (Prozac) changed my life.

Zoloft, from what I hear is a "rough". Does more to alter your mood than suppress serotonin receptors. A low dosage of Prozac 4yrs ago was the perfect SSRI to lower my anxiety.

meds work differently for everyone. a lot of it is placebo effect.

seeing a therapist is the most important thing. studies find that meds alone are not as useful as combination meds/therapy. i'd start seeing the psychologist for a bit first before going on the meds and then make a joint decision with him/her

I've already decided to start the meds since it's a low dosage. I have my first meeting with a therapist this coming Friday.

All of this ^!!! Like I said earlier I have no personal experience with anti-depressants but I know that everything you said is true because I have dealt with loved ones that have had issues.

Good luck my friend, I hope it all works! I am very sorry to hear about your father and how it happened, that is just beyond terrible.

These medications work for the most part. They can help you get over the hump. Seeing a therapist will also help. Give it a try but give it at least a month to work to its full potential. Don't forget physical activity and try to get some sunlight daily. It's been a long hard winter.

You can not just quit taking AD's. You have to ween off them very slowly by reducing the dosage.

Taking zoloft, will it help with anxiety and depression?

Yes

Will I have bad side effects like loss of sex drive?

I'm 56 and still getting me some.

I still stay a little depress, but try dealing with needing a new heart. There is not a second when I'm awake that that is eating at me. It helps take the edge off some days.

My daughter had to get of them for a short time in her last year in school with the work load she was under. Once she finished school, she was able to get off them and now everything is great for. her

I was on Zoloft for a few months. It did cause the sexual side effects you fear and also came with insomnia. Yay! But as my DR said anti-depressants are a grab bag drug. You just have to find what works for you. I'm on Celexa now, and it works much better for me.

Also 25 mg seems super low, my psychiatrist told me 50 mg was the norm to start people at.

Just my personal learned the hard way lesson...take the medicine as prescribed. DO NOT stop taking them if the side effects bother you. You have to ween off. Suicidal thoughts are a side effect if you stop taking them. You may end up in the psych ward for 9 days....just sayin.

But will I become dependent on this, and have to keep upping the dosage?

You need to talk to your doctor about this. You won't become dependant. The time limit totally depends on your depression. I was originally given a 4-5 month range, but it's been upped to over a year due to recent losses and hospitalization.

Just worry about getting better!

My father committed suicide when I was in 8th grade, and I had to be the one to find him

Very sorry to hear. I lost someone extremely close to the same way in January. I often fear for her boyfriend/fiance who found her. There are grief counselor and suicide survivor groups, which could help you talk through your issues and help! :)

Need to sign up for a group myself as I spent last night crying like crazy, your thread was a reminder.

Yes. It's an amazing treatment for prople with OCD/anxiety/depression, etc. My wife has a severe case of OCD, and emotional swings. She's on 150 mg of Zoloft, and it knock it out. She's completely normal while on her meds. The only side effects were headache and being tired, which passed after 2 weeks. It saved my marriage.

Zoloft- couldn't finish had to get off (pun intended)
Wellbutrin- worked fine
Divorce-ended the situational depression. Medication no longer needed.

Hate that about your heart, fish. I had some major medical issues last year, and you're right, it's all you can think about. I know a guy who had a heart transplant last year, and he's doing great. Slow down on the sects, don't want to go out on top, or maybe you do.

The best approach is a combination of medication and therapy. Yes, antidepressants have their side effects, but you are not taking them forever. However, if you need to get a handle on things, make the short-term sacrifice for about a year and then wean off of them. I am not a particularly big fan of Zoloft. I normally recommend Pristiq. Start out at 50 mg and if needed eventually work up to 100 mg daily. It will take two or three weeks for the effects of the med to be appreciated, but the stuff does work. If it messes with sexual functioning, go to Welbutrin.

Zoloft put me in the mindset of a rabid wolverine. Now I take Lexapro and Doxepin and I'm doing well--or at least as well as someone fricked up as I am can do.

Im 45yr old and went to my GP with symptoms of depression. We started with Zoloft since it is the most reliable and cheapest med to start with. Went from 50mg to 100mg. With no affect besides lasting forever in bed.

He asked about my sleep habits and I told him that my wife tells me that I snore a lot and will stop and start. I am now scheduled for a sleep test to see if I have Sleep Apnea. The symptoms can be the same as depression.

Here us a list of SA symptoms.

Inability to concentrate
Insomnia
Poor memory
Fatigue
Day time sleepiness
Headaches
Frequent naps
Irritability
Excessive sleepiness
Mood disorders
Hypertension
Depression
Frequent urination at night
Personality changes
Restlessness
Snoring
Mouth breathing
Anxiety
Regular nightmares
Dry throat in the morning
Forgetfulness

Zoloft sucks. Lexapro is the way to go. All this shite can decrease your interest in and ability to enjoy sex, so have your doctor write you some Viagra. Then top it all off with a couple vicodin (10 mg) for a cocktail I call the V-2--and your sex performance issues will be gone. Good luck, get laid, have fun--especially the have fun part. You deserve it.
