great idea. put all of the workers with money in their pockets in one place.
that way the thugs don't have to drive all over town to find people to rob.

food trucks, strip clubs, some sort of media center (like a small movie theater?), urgent medical clinics, supply stores, etc

and what good would it do for Calcasieu Parish as far as the economy?
i love how the letter is like THIS IS A CAMERON FACILITY!! and they completely ignore the fact that Calcasieu/Hackberry is going to reap the benefits from that facility...but they want all that money to...stay in Cameron?

I was disappointed

I know the guy that acquired all this land and is planning this development. They did a lot of work after Katrina. Here is his website.
I helped them do some stuff during the oil spill as well. Good ole boys from LSU

The Asian cartel is coming in to rule SWLa.

there is absolutely not way that there are enough skilled workers in this area to accommodate what will be coming.
Do you honestly expect us to believe that there are not 2500 "skilled" laborers looking for work in the US? This is not about bringing in skilled labor, this is 100% about bringing in cheap foreign labor.

agree. But at the same time, you would be pissed as well if someone wanted to put this next to your property. they may have the right to do so, but it would still piss you off.

the KPLC comments are EPIC
it's like the pieces of flair the Nazis made the Jews wear
they have a very expansive definition of "neighborhood"
wait...what? how is not "living locally"?
Sasol has nothing to do with the Cameron development

This is so they can hire CHEAP foreign labor while local people have to work out of state to support there family like myself that LNG did it the first time they built they could get all the skilled craftsmen they need if they would pay more and use union skilled workers. But they won't do that and that's why the south is always going in reverse.

Yes and no. The ones that are skilled enough to work these jobs are asking for too much money.

this thing isn't even really close by anybody's property. i also live in an urban area, which prevents this for the most part. even then, there appears to be some sort of a shop being built right next to my current location. while this may add some issues, it will also help in some ways (more well-to-do people around during the day to monitor the issues of thieving going around LC in day time, for example)

Expect anything different? Totally uninformed and ridiculous.

These guys will be making VERY good money. If you think they'll be getting paid $10/hr, you're crazy.
These guys will be making 60-70k/year on these projects.
All the while, workers from this area will be making the same thing. MUCH more than what they are making now. The competition for skilled workers are going to skyrocket here as well as the hourly wages. It's a win/win for everyone in this area. I don't care who they put to work as long as people are making money and doing it safely.

These man camps are going up all over West Texas and North Dakota. It's nothing new. They had them set up all over the Gulf Coast during Katrina and the Oil Spill.
Shipyards across the coast currently have housing camps set up in different locations to house their workers. It's been going on allover the place for a very long time. Some people need to get their head out of their asses.

You should have a problem with this. There is a better way; namely, providing tax incentives for these companies to hire American workers. You and your community would benefit more if US dollars were spent on US employees.

what kind of tax incentives?
How about free health care for their employees?
