So today we backed up and countersunk all the bottom nails and almost forgot to fix the 2 split ribs...(done) and replaced all the steel screws with brass...we have a nephew/couisins graduation to attend so we broke for the day...tomorrow a.m. we will countersink all the side nails and any inside nails that the putty wore through when sanding...

NOTE: the plastic wood in the tubes are the way to go!!! easy apply means faster working time and a whole lot less waste...we didn't even use a half tube on all the bottom nails...

if you put the wood putty in the freezer, you cqn get much longer working time out of it.

anytime I use epoxy I put it in the freezer firsttoo

Finally got a chance to work on the pirogue today. Ribs repaired, handles installed, seats refastened (think they were installed with pretty dry glue and they popped up so I re glued and added a brass screw to each side of each board), steel screws replaced with brass, excess glue chisled off, everything planed and sanded, nails set, and about to go putty holes.

The oil base will work, but takes overnight to dry. It takes around a qt to prime, maybe more.

Puttied sanded and primed today. Gonna caulk some of the small gaps around the seat supports before letting it sit overnight. In the am it gets a coat of light olive green. And some camp stripes.

Imagine my big arse in it...

By this time next year, I should be down to a weight that the pirogue can handle.

Theirs handled 405 today CD. So you are well under that. I bet it would handle 500 OK honestly.

Ohhhhh... Didn't realize they were both in it at one time. Wow...

I'm hoping DaHammer and I will be able to finish up all the wood working on ours next weekend. Mine is still over at his place after I picked up both of ours from Fish's on the Monday after the build weekend.

Should carry around a max weight of 650-700 lbs. But, it's going to be very close and gets tipsy.

Looks good choup. I was wondering how it road with that extra 6" added.
